Hey all :) If you need help with anything, please ask, below. The page tends to fill up quickly, so I've got a lot of archives. I try not to archive discussions that are ongoing, but sometimes it unfortunately happens. Gimme a second shout if I've not answered your question!

This page is also available in Bulgarian, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Hebrew and Russian.

If you've come here to request a simple, uncontroversial page move, please consider using {{speedy rename}} instead. This puts all rename requests into a neat little chart that all admin can see and work on.

Hello to you too

Hello Czech; it's been a while. Nice to be back, but I wish I'd arrived earlier as university beckons once more. I see you have been busy; the wiki has certainly benefited from some fine tuning. These changes were present in a nascent form before my extended leave, so it's interesting to see how they worked out. That said, I do miss some of the quirks, such as the prefixes, and the old guard are notable in their absence.

Unfortunately, I do find myself at a bit of a loss when it comes to the latest policies, so I'll have to dip into that at some point. I had to look to the community for help using the new infobox too.

On a side note, and you may already be aware of this, but I'm experiencing a technical issue that causes the stub and {{wikipediainfo}} templates to float in the middle of my screen, as opposed to the left/right hand side. I'm not sure if you've changed them, but I'm pretty sure they never did that when you first introduced them. I'm using Windows 7 Chrome if that helps.

Anyway, nice to hear from you.--Skittles the hog - talk 18:00, September 8, 2014 (UTC)

Help With Infobox

Hi, I was recently added the cover pictures for The Ghosts of Gralstead and there are three of them. I have done the usual trick in the infobox but it doesn't show the third image, I am assuming this is a quirk of the coding, is there a way round this? Adric♥NyssaTalk? 21:59, September 8, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, thought there would be a simple solution. Adric♥NyssaTalk? 16:03, September 9, 2014 (UTC)

The Promised Land

When you deleted the page, I was trying to make it so that an admin would know to change it. Also, why didn't you just change the name? Please reinstate it with the real name. Rufus 05:26, September 12, 2014 (UTC) 120d User talk:120d

Re:Tophat Templates

Okay. Also, please do not delete pages in the future, just rename them. It was just a mistake. Rufus 05:31, September 12, 2014 (UTC) 120d (I am not going to add all of the talk page and user page info because it is in the message above)

First, The Promised Land had more information than most of the pages on this wiki. Saying that it should be deleted because it only has one sentence means you should delete all of the other planets that have appeared in books that have one sentence on them. Second, It was not speculation, it was pure evidence. Its an actual location and the Doctor thought it was just heaven. Third, why not have it now and add information when we get it? It seems like it would be better to have it now and add the info as it is revealed than to try to remember all of the information at one time later in the series or in the next series. Fourth, I am sorry that I couldn't get a better free image one week after it premieres. I don't like you people and your image rules. All of the other rules seem to make sense, but the image rules seem to be the least logical and the most enforced. What you admins do is, if it breaks one tiny rule, you have to go and delete it. I am glad that you didn't delete my image. (let's hope you haven't or someone else hasn't by the time you are reading this) Don't delete an image because it is not good quality or because it doesn't have a license on it. For the quality part, keep the best quality image and once a better quality image is found replace the image. For the license part, talk to the person who uploaded the image. Maybe they didn't know about the rules. I know that the rules say that you don't have to talk to us, but that is what a member of the community would do. I am pretty sure that there is not a rule that says you should be a jerk about it. (Sorry, some of this was misdirected anger. I am angry at another admin. (who I think should be demoted)) (also, sorry if this took too long to be sent, part of the reason is that I am not used to having to go to the other person's talk page. Personally, I prefer Message Walls over Talk pages. They seem easier.) Rufus 05:54, September 12, 2014 (UTC) 120d
  • I see your point. I am glad you were nice about it. I would love to know your opinion on Talk Pages vs. Message Walls. I am sure that if you read this without prior knowledge of the conversation, you would be confused. Rufus 21:13, September 12, 2014 (UTC) User:120d User talk:120d

Re: Images

I see your point. However, if one image exists of that topic, even if it is low quality, then should it be deleted? Rufus 21:13, September 12, 2014 (UTC) User:120d User talk:120d

Re: Signatures

This entire message would have had to be written if you had message walls. I advise you to examine the pros and cons of both message walls and talk pages. If you decide that you think message walls are better, I advise you to talk to other admins and users to get their opinion. Also, this is an example of a rule that is taken way too seriously. I would have definitely put my full signature, if it wasn't the message above. Rufus 21:13, September 12, 2014 (UTC) User:120d User talk:120d

I know that on most wikis, I am not able to promote other wikis on some pages, but if you want to check it out sometime just click the link in the heading.

Re:Message Walls

When was the last time you discussed it? The reason that I am asking this is because if it has been awhile people might have changed their minds or might think that it is time for a change. Personally, I believe that the advantages of message walls outweigh the disadvantages. It seems more of a hassle to have to go back at forth and possibly not respond if the person didn't get the message. The message wall system allow people to get messages easier and it is all in one place. There is also no need to remember to write your "talk page" or username information. Rufus 22:37, September 12, 2014 (UTC) 120d User talk:120d

Two things: 1. I don't like when people say that something will happen or something won't happen. You have no idea what the future of this wiki is. Maybe, in a few years, talk pages will be removed from Wikia all together. I don't know and neither do you. 2. Please stop starting your sentences with "and". It is bad grammar. Re: Image Deletion

You know, I never liked following rules that aren't actually rules. (I am talking about the last sentence in your message) I suggest you read the entire thing before doing anything.

I am starting to think that you people don't want me to contribute on this wiki. Ever since I started editing people have harassed me about doing thing wrong. At first, it was basic, reasonable things like using British English. But it soon became absolutely ridiculous things. If you are not a mad man, then tell me how night pictures are bad (especially one that was clearly not dark) and file names being bad is a reason for it to be deleted. I think that you admins like to be as lazy as possible. I know for a fact that all admins have the ability to rename images. You can probably also change licensing much easier than a normal user can. I am sick of admins coming up with bull crap reasons to block me or delete my contributions. "You disagreed with my point of view and the vague rules that are up to interpretation, but only MY interpretation. Block!" "You said one bad thing during Christmas time, the time of being nice. (The following action goes against what I just mentioned) Block!" "Your image was not correctly licensed. Delete!" "Your image was taken at night, in my opinion doesn't clearly show the topic, (which it does (by the way, I would have uploaded a cropped photo of the building, but I knew you were going to harass me about not having it be a widescreen image.) and has a name that is not easily searchable (which isn't the point of an image on a wiki (the point of an image on a wiki is to convey a scene or point that is in an article or template or to represent an article.) Delete!" "The name of your article was incorrect. (You did give me good reasons after the fact, but the fact remains that the reason you gave to delete that article is that the name was incorrect.) Delete!" I hope you see my point. Also, the image did show the scene was. Anyone who has seen the episode knows that Rose Tyler's work is about to explode. I am going to re-upload my image with a different name. Please don't delete it because of these ridiculous rules. I have proven that the name thing is the only thing that I think is reasonable to change. Something that you and Shambala108 cannot seem to understand is that you should talk to the people before you delete. We are all trying to contribute to this wiki. Your job is to not allow spoilers and vandalism, make sure everyone is nice (not necessarily agreeing), and make sure that all information is up to date and well-written. I can honestly say that right now there is no such thing as a Doctor Who wiki community. Right now, there is are two classes: the admins and their followers. Some of us don't want to be followers. It doesn't matter how long you have been here or what abilities you have. All that matters is that you are all fans of Doctor Who and want to contribute to this wiki. I think that there needs to be a change in the rules; a change that would allow all users to be equal and not have to follow ridiculous rules. Just because they are the wiki's rules doesn't mean they are good. Rufus 15:37, September 16, 2014 (UTC) 120d User talk:120d

I understand what you have written. I have a few things I wanted to mention. First, you used "and" at the beginning of a sentence again; please stop. Second, isn't the caption supposed to be what tells a person who has never seen the what it is about. Third, you keep talking about the image as if it wasn't on the article. I feel like you keep going from specific to the topic to all things that topic is contained in in the same sentence. Fourth, you are mistaken on what I think an admins job is. The things I gave were just some of the general responsibilities of a admin. I am saying that you shouldn't bring up naming as a reason to delete a page or picture, if you can change the name yourself. Same with licensing if you can change it easily. I do not think that admins are maids. I am an admin on other wikis and would never like to be called a maid. Fifth, I don't like that you, and I don't know this, but it might be because you are an admin, think that other admins are good admins. Do you think that I should have been blocked for adding spoilers? I believe that i had stopped at that point, but he or she still blocked me. I don't remember what I said, but do you think that I should have been blocked for saying something mean? (Personally, I think that one is uncalled for. The first one I didn't like, but this was just no okay.) I am pretty sure that I didn't swear. As far as my memory goes, I have only sworn once on a wiki and it was not on this wiki. You cannot say that all admins do the right thing all of the time because they do not. Rufus 17:52, September 16, 2014 (UTC) 120d User talk:120d
I was told never to start a sentence with "and". It is definitely not formal. Also, my past with Encyclopedia SpongeBobia has no relevance to this. I left on my own accord and was removed from power for blocking people. (By the way, I forgot to point out earlier that I have never been banned on a wiki) Also, I believe you mean "the admins over at...". I do not believe that all of your rules are ridiculous. I have never stated once that I am not obligated to follow your rules. I have a suggestion. I think that a guideline page for characters and locations should be made. It would help me and others a lot on what we can and cannot write on a character and location page. Rufus 22:35, September 16, 2014 (UTC) 120d User talk:120d
I know this is (was) a personal discussion but I would like to rudely butt in with another low-edit-count user's POV. I side with Rufus/120d here: I was essentially driven off the Star Wars Wookieepedia wiki after only a few attempts at participation by admins and admin-wannabes who were rather rude, arrogant, and abrasive in the ways they applied the policies (some of which are indeed, like Rufus charged, rather dependent on personal interpretation). Yes, I understand that you admins and your clique of followers desire a well-running, accurate wiki, but it doesn't excuse the consistent rudeness I've seen while reading the edit histories of both Wookieepedia and Tardis Core articles and the talk pages of admins and users alike, often exacerbated or even initiated by said admins and their adherents. I would love to be a contributor myself, but after being burned the first time I am very reluctant to return to being a wiki contributor.
Yes, you guys do try to explain why you changed something after you make the changes, but it's the fact that you (or the bots you are responsible for) summarily changed something that a user (especially a new one) probably worked really hard to contribute that really hurts people. And when they try to explain why it shouldn't be changed they often get a response that comes across really rudely. (Trust me--I've been reading pages for the last hour or two and have seen a definite pattern.) My bottom line is that if other users give you an earful about this stuff, LISTEN TO THEM. Don't just push your own side and ignore them! Rules are OK, but when they become a source of constant friction between new, enthusiastic contributors and the high-up admins/wannabes, pay attention! Rufus is right--it's not a welcoming community anymore when that happens; it's effectively a gated community that new guys like me and Rufus either have to navigate the complicated path into (and no matter how good your rules might be, they're really complicated and, as I mentioned before, more subjectively applied than I think you realize), or else get burned out and scared away in the attempt. I know you've probably heard this crap before, and I know your instinctive response is going to be to disagree completely, but please just think about what I'm saying and consider whether you and other admins, and your close followers, could use a bit of working on not coming across as complete jerks.
Finally, I know you're probably aching to mention that Rufus was ignoring repeated warnings. Yeah, I saw that. And that the whole spoilers guideline set is pretty clear. Yes, it is. But my point is that the problem extends to more than just that. As I said, I got burned pretty badly as someone who was trying to understand and interpret the rules correctly when I originally started contributing at Wookieepedia. It's not just vandals, it's not just spammers, it's not just belligerent numbskulls that your rules are catching and tripping. It's also guys like me who just want to participate but are having trouble getting the hang of what is accepted, often with raised eyebrows, and what is condemned and more often than not killed with figurative fire. Whether or not Rufus has been fighting you on a legitimate basis, I feel several of his criticisms of you and Shambala are rather accurate and can be extended to a lot of the "experienced" wiki admins/editors/users. So all I'm asking is that you guys start being a bit more honest with yourselves and not just act like the fault lies solely on the part of the newer users who keep "messing things up." Because I'm pretty sure it isn't. Deal? Milar Kayne 09:26, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Image format gaffe

Thank you for pointing out my mistake regarding the proper image format. I'm still very new to this wikia, and now I can see the image policy has a few notable differences from the one I'm used to. I'll be more vigilant in the future. --Lelal Mekha Rassilon seal.jpg (Parlour) 15:47, September 16, 2014 (UTC)

Green coat

Thanks for that information.

I remember that discussion, which was for Totem.

I've read a lot of ST & Benny short stories, and the funny thing about them is that the authors don't feel the least bit hampered by the short page length. There is more variety in storytelling methods in the short stories than in the novels. Sometimes, the authors won't always "fill in the blanks" for the reader by stating outright, "This story features such and such Doctor". But they often do include certain hints with which viewers of the television show will be familiar. Based on my observations, it's much more likely that a story features one of the first 8 Doctors (Anghelides' future Doctor excepted) rather than a possible future incarnation. Shambala108 19:35, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Images

Your remarks and advices are duly noted. It seems I went too far with the "crop images to show just the relevant subject" principle. As I told Shambala earlier today, I'm still struggling not to muddle up the Wookieepedia policies and habits—which I've been used to for 8 years—and those that apply here. I'm afraid I relied too much on my assumptions and got on a roll too quickly. --Lelal Mekha (Parlour) 22:34, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

New Hidden Category

Hi. I've created a new hidden category:http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Pages_with_Behind_the_Scenes_sections. I thought it might be useful to keep track of articles with BTS sections. Some users don't seem to understand what a "valid source" is so they put information that should be in the BTS section in the body of the article. However, when I turn off hidden categories in my preferences I still see it alongside the other categories. I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. Can you please help me? Question

Hey, I hope you don't mind me passing on the following message, as I didn't want to make the wrong decision. Thanks! Shambala108 01:32, September 22, 2014 (UTC)

Hello, Shambala. I wanted to know your opinion about something I just discovered—and I hope you'll forgive me if that particular matter has already been discussed and solved by the community. I saw the BBC sold TARDIS type 40 plaques on its website, saying they are exact replicas of the one that was found on the interior of the Series 5- 7 TARDIS. At the beginning, I was skeptical about this, but I ended up discovering that plaque could indeed be seen in Amy's Choice. (It's a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance, and you really have to pause the episode at the right frame to see it, but it's there.) Now, I'm not sure this can be considered canonical, because it may be an Easter egg. That's why I didn't go ahead and didn't create an article on the Gallifrey Blackhole Shipyards. In fact, I'm doubting of the plaque's canonicity because it says the Doctor's TARDIS was built in 1963. Somehow, I don't think it sounds right, but I may be mistaken. What do you think? Cheers. --Lelal Mekha (Parlour) 18:27, September 21, 2014 (UTC)

Adopting various policies for my own Wiki

Hey CzechOut,

I only wanted to let you know that, because this wiki is so established and well organised, I have been using various policies of your's as well as copying over templates (modifying them slightly) to my own wiki over at UCOS, otherwise known as the New Tricks wiki.

Despite being created over 8 months ago, there is still a lot of work to do with the top priority being to add tons of content in order to reduce those stubs!

I'm in the process of merging with the other New Tricks Wiki to make it less confusing to new folk.

What I need help with is getting some dedicated admins to help fill in missing content - I can only do so much without compromising Uni work!

Anyway, it's nice to meet you - accept this virtual handshake,

Scott

Video games

Hi! I was looking at the case of The Doctor and the Dalek, which doesn't have the dab term of (video game), and I noticed that several video games do not have a dab term. I checked some dab policies, and there is no mention of video games among the story dab terms. So do they need the dab term, or is it optional? Thanks! Shambala108 16:59, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the fast response. I can work on that tonight. Shambala108 17:08, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Revisiting The Gift

Hi! I know this was almost a year ago that you asked, but I now have a copy of Short Trips: The History of Christmas. Here's the passage in question, in which the First Doctor is speaking to Doris:

"We've never met, remember. But when he goes, I'm there for him. At the funeral, I mean, I'm there. All of me, in fact. The ones that knew him best carry him. We don't usually get on, you know. But this time we make the effort. I think it works because we are all determined not to be the one to cause a fuss...for him...Mind you, we weren't so successful at the wake. Two of us ended up almost coming to blows. I think it started over who had had the last sausage roll and suddenly they were fighting over which of them Alistair liked best."

You also asked, "Or can the whole volume of Short Trips: The History of Christmas be said to chronicle only the adventures of One-Eight?" Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but this is one of the volumes that states at the beginning of each story which Doctor is involved. Hope this helps to resolve the issue somewhat. New chat feature for Doctor Who community app

Hey CzechOut,

With the release of our new Community Apps, we are preparing to test a new chat feature strictly for Android for the moment, and we have selected your community to be one of the first communities to receive this feature.

This message is simply to notify you that chat will be going live on your Community App. There are a couple of things that you should be aware of concerning the feature. The first is that this chat feature is completely independent from the desktop chat feature available for the desktop experience. The second is that at this early stage of testing, we are not requiring users to sign in to chat using their Wikia usernames. That means that any user can choose any username they want.

If you do receive any messages from users who have feedback or bugs to report about the chat feature, please refer them to Special:Contact or the ‘Send Feedback’ option in the Community App.

If you personally have any questions or concerns about the Chat feature, please contact us through Special:Contact or the ‘Send Feedback’ option in the Community App.

Thanks!

New header

Looks like you've got some major problems to deal with regarding the new header. Besides knocking the clock out of position (as I already warned you about on the forum), which makes it invisible on white background pages and making it unclickable (it gets covered by the notifications box), I now notice that your custom colour scheme has resulted in notifications having white text on a white background on pages with white body text (i.e. front page, mainspace, and talk). And your CSS is apparently knocking the Wikia logo out of position. I've reported this on the blog post at Community Central.  Digifiend  Talk  PR/SS  KR  MH  Toku  JD  Garo  TH  CG  UM  Logos  CLG  DW  21:20, 3/12/2014

See, five years from now, when series 8 is a half-remembered thing, and Courtney is long forgotten, some new user is going to come along and ask why we've put her in the navbox. They'll say something like, "She's even less important to plots than Jackie!"

I presume that you mean Season 34 rather then Series 8 *chuckles*

Oasis/Monobook Switcher

Hey Czech, I've been using your Oasis/Monobook/Mobile view switch script for a while. But now that Wikia changed the global navbar the buttons have been moved out of place. Any chance of an update that's compatible for the new navbar?
Man with a fancy signature - Telegram

Ah, I didn't realise it was from Dev Wiki. I know it can be manually done, but the buttons were really convenient/neat to find the SiteNoticeID in monobook for oasis site notices. Doing it manually is like watching 3D instead of 14D, a bit pedestrian.

Macqueen Template Master Link

Hi, I've just noticed when clicking the link for the Master in Macqueen's incarnation in now doen't link to the start of the section of his incarnation it starts at the subsection "Impersonating the Doctor" as this is what it was created for, but now the Macqueen master inforamtion starts a "Preparing for War" since you created the template (I think) is it possible to change it to reflect where the information starts in the article. This is such an incredibly minor thing here but I was wondering if you would consider updating the Technology image on the main page to feature the Matt Smith / Peter Capaldi era TARDIS Police box exterior that displays the St. John Ambulance logo on it? Just wanted to run that past you and see if you thought it was worth doing at some point? Thanks for reading. Keep up the great work and I look forward to hearing your views on this. --Confirm Nothing...Deny Everything 19:08, February 25, 2015 (UTC)

STANDARD PRELOADS

Hi I was wondering if I could ask about the standard preloads it looks like a great tool and I have a Wikia but I am not sure how I could added. I realise this isn't a Tardis Wikia matter but if you can assist me. I would be most grateful. Thanks Kelvin 101 18:58, March 23, 2015 (UTC)

All Caps Alert

I've received an alert about posting in all caps on a few pages I've edited over the last day or so and at first I thought it was the character ARC that triggered it (I've never had a problem with getting that alert on pages where I've typed his name before), but soon realized that SERVEYOUinc was setting it off either instead of or in addition to. Mewiet 19:15, March 25, 2015 (UTC)

Actually, I wasn't the one who created the SERVEYOUinc page, though after I noticed it I was trying to be consistent with the spelling. But, I will check back the comics again and see if I can find an image that will help us all out. Mewiet 03:41, March 26, 2015 (UTC)
It looks like SERVEYOUinc is indeed the correct spelling. It's first shown on a business card in What He Wants...: File:SERVEYOUinc1.jpg. As you noted, comics often write in all caps, which is done here as well, but they make a point of having the SERVEYOU in large letters, with the INC in tiny letters. Two more illustrations of that card are shown several pages later. In The Sound of Our Voices the SERVEYOUinc logo appears in a computer screen: File:SERVEYOUinc2.jpg. This one explicitly shows the first two words in capitals and the inc in lowercase. A stylized version of the same can be seen on their head office in The Rise and Fall: File:SERVEYOUinc 3 .jpg. All of which align with the fact that it's typed as "SERVEYOUinc" on the "Previously..." recaps on the inside covers. Mewiet 04:24, March 26, 2015 (UTC)

Inter-language links

Hi there, I've probably come to the wrong person but I thought I'd leave a note anyway. Where the inter-language links are concerned, the Polish flag doesn't work and so the links between articles to the Polish Wiki can't be made. Seems trivial, I know, but if you could direct me to the person who can help me, I'd much appreciate it. :D

Possible defacing

Hi there,

Just a quick note to check out the page Time Dwarves. User:Patrick.vtap created it (probably) as a joke but obviously only admins can delete it. It also says he made an edit to Time Lord. I wanted to give you the heads up in case it goes under the radar and in case it's as stupid as I think it is.

Danke schön, Merci beaucoup. TheFartyDoctor Talk 20:30, May 5, 2015 (UTC) P.S. How are you getting on with the Polish interlanguage link flag/logo?

Seven Keys to Doomsday

Hi! You might want to check out Thread:141232, which you started a year and a half ago with a link to a question on Talk:Seven Keys to Doomsday (audio story). Some information has come to light that might answer your question as to the story's NOTDWU status. Thanks! Shambala108 05:27, May 20, 2015 (UTC)

Bernice Summerfield books and audios

Sorry, but I have to say this:

You are a rude, arrogant person, and a liar.

The current version of AHistory does indeed contain the section I quoted, on pp. 526-528. Your claim that it doesn't exist is not true, just as your claim that it doesn't include the word "terminology". Perhaps you are confusing it with the "Extras" that could be downloaded?

In any case, your abrupt manner, and then immediately locking the discussion allowing a reply shows your true intentions. You don't want discussion, you don't want anything. Your claim that nothing has been added in three weeks is also a lie. The discussion was still ongoing, you had talked yourself in circles.

And then you simply locked the thread stating that I was wrong, and that nothing had been said.

here's what I said: This website says that anything that uses something they don't have the rights to isn't a Valid Source. This website also claims that if a range of stories keeps using other names for key elements of the DWU because they don't have the legal right to refer to them by name, then those stories probably shouldn't be included.

Your response seems to be that "the Benny stories are supposed to be set in the DWU" or that "Paul Cornell owns Benny", or that "Plague Herd of Excelis uses the same Excelis from Excelis Dawns/Rising/Decays".

To both of those, that is not the point. That was NEVER the point. The point, as repeated many times had nothing to do with Benny herself, or who owns Benny or Chris Cwej or Roz. It was that these stories never had the legal right to use the TARDIS, the Time Lords, the Ice Warriors etc., but they used them anyway, only NEVER referring to them them by their actual names.

And then suddenly according to you, using key elements of the DWU without proper licence or authorisation is perfectly ok, as long as they never refer to them by name. Which is the exact opposite of what it says on Valid Source.s You then point out that the recent audios with Benny use these terms. But these audios you use as your supposed evidence are later stories, probably the first story where the Benny audios got the rights to use concepts that they had not had the rights to before. The point, AGAIN, was about those original 23 novels, and the first few years of BF books and audios.

However, you have now locked the discussion having failed to prove anything other than your own lack of interest to engage in an actual discussion. You haven't made any points, only battle cries. You have lied, claiming that things as not as they are, trying to claim that something was supposed to be "humorous", and then tried to confuse more recent releases with the original releases, the ones actually being discussed.

Look, you want to include these stories despite the fact that they explicitly break the very rules that you yourself created, fine. It's your wiki. But at least have the common decency and respect for other peoples' intelligence to say that it's "because you say so", rather than acting as though you actually made any valid points to back up your position in the thread that you chose to lock before any sort of agreement had been reached.

A quick hello

Shwmae!

I left you a message on the Welsh Doctor Who Wiki ([[1]]) and was wondering whether you'd seen it. I wasn't sure whether you saw notifications from other language Wikis. I got one from the Spanish Wiki the other day when I was doing some language work for them so assumed it worked for every Wiki haha.

If you could leave me a message on the comment thread that I created back on the Welsh Wiki whenever you're free, I'd much appreciate it. Hwyl am y tro! Matthew

Another annoying request again

Shwmae eto!

While the request for your help on our Wiki is still pending, I wondered if I could pester you to help us with something different (or point us to the right person). You see, I'm not good at all when it comes to infoboxes and I designed one to include numerous categories (not all of them useful to each person). E.g., there's a 'mum' category but I was hoping that when the character's mum isn't mentioned, I don't fill it in, thus it doesn't appear... but it's not worked out like that haha.

I'm using this template: http://cy.doctorwho.wikia.com/wiki/Nodyn%3ACharacter

Now it took me about 30 mins to try and decode it and rejumble it about. For someone who's not an expert in anything coding-related, I think you'll agree that I am pretty marvellous.

Regardless, when I tested it on a page, the empty boxes are still there... but evidently not empty... you'll what I mean. http://cy.doctorwho.wikia.com/wiki/Mab_Clive

Any help on creating the table of my dreams? All of your help so far has been amazing. Thanks! Matt TheFartyDoctor Talk 22:00, June 4, 2015 (UTC)

SJA novelizations

Hi! Regarding Thread:167022, "When a novelization expands, but does not contradict", where do the SJA novelizations stand on this? A user who has read the novelizations was wondering if various TV character pages could be renamed to reflect the names given in the novelizations. My understanding of your comments on the thread would be that the SJA novelizations are too little known compared to the TV episodes, and therefore the pages shouldn't be renamed, but I'd like your ruling on this. Thanks! Shambala108 02:09, June 21, 2015 (UTC)

Are we still on your to-do list? :P

Shwmae TsiecaiddAllan (I translated your name for you),

Just checking that we're still on your to-do list over at the Welsh Wici. If you could simply let me know, I'd highly appreciate it. Then we can hopefully coincide with one-another and use Wiki Chat to keep in touch. Do you need me to tell you specifically what needs doing? :)

FASA question

Hi! Quick question. Is the FASA game The Doctor Who Role Playing Game a valid source or not? Everything that I can find from years ago says it is not, but I can't seem to find a specific policy statement explaining why. The article itself has the "real world" tag rather than the "invalid source" tag. Thanks. Shambala108 05:02, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

Couple of things that need your attention

Hi! Thanks for the information you posted on my page about FASA. I was looking for something I could use as a current reason why it's not valid. I had read the old arguments, but their use of the word "canon" kept me from using them as a reason.

Anyway, there are a couple of things that I think need your attention when you have a chance. First, User:Thefartydoctor has been working on the Welsh wiki and would like your input. He's left a couple of messages on your talk page, and if you've already been in touch with him, please just ignore this paragraph.

Second, and more seriously, User:Digifiend posted at thread:176596 the existence of a website that has plagiarized much of this wiki. I've taken a look at it myself, and a random search of articles shows the text of the articles comes straight from our wiki. I don't know what to do in such a situation, or even if it's a matter of concern. Thanks! Shambala108 03:28, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Czech

Hey Czech, I wanted to check up on a few things. I believe that we had had a discussion about Big Finish bonus discs, and I was wondering if that went anywhere. More importantly, I recall you offering me the activity of making a page enclosing all 50th Anniversary stories... I'm trying to do a (two years short) vid on all of stories, but I remembered that there's no list of the stories or category for them anymore, so I can't remember all the stories. Didn't you have a link for your bot removals? Also I'd be fine with making that page if you told me what you wanted. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 02:30, August 17, 2015 (UTC)

Hi there! Could I bother you to check out the discussion at Thread:171578 when you get a chance? The discussion would benefit from an admin's eye, and the proposed page moves would benefit from an admin's ability to move an article and then move another to the old name of the first article. — Rob T Firefly - Δ - 15:11, August 29, 2015 (UTC)

Titan Back-up Comics

It's been two weeks now since the discussion at Thread:177099 opened, meaning that the voting cession is now over I guess. Right now it's 13-0 votes for the WeLoveTITANS gags being invalid and 7-6 for the other back up comic stories being valid. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 01:11, September 13, 2015 (UTC)

Another vote has been cast since I left this message, meaning that the votes for back-up stories in general are now at 7-7. So you're either gonna have to break the tie, discount the vote, or wait for another vote. Right now though, it's totally split.
Sorry to bother you. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 18:18, September 13, 2015 (UTC)

Locked Pages

Hey, do we really need to keep pages like Eighth Doctor and Martha Jones locked for so long? If you wanna do tests with the infobox that take a long time, you should do it in a sandbox is all I'm saying. Locking down these two pages is a huge worry, especially when stories featuring them are still being released. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 18:53, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

Aright, thanks! Sorry for the inconsiderate bother OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 18:16, September 19, 2015 (UTC)

One last thing, is there any chance that we could wrap up Thread:177099? It's died down at this point. I actually had to look for it -- it's not in my notification history. Right now it's 8 to 7 for the back-up strips being valid and unanimous for #WeLoveTitans being invalid. Seems like this would be a good time for a speedy clean-up. Hello! I was wondering if you could help me with my Finnish Doctor Who Wikia. I'm really new to templates and I don't understand anything about creating a "Stub" template. I was wondering if you could help me create one for the Doctor Who Wikia. It should look almost identical to the Stub template this Wikia uses.

Another question I have is how to make the Language (InterWiki links) as country flags rather than text-only. If you could help me with some of these things, I'd be really grateful and it would make the different Doctor Who Wikias look more professional.

Talk Pages and infobox images

I've opened a discussion at Talk:Bernice Summerfield about finding a new profile picture for her article. The one we currently are using is very awkward and artistically captures Bernice as well as the TV Action comics capture Elisabeth Sladen. I have selected a few images from DWM comics and one short story to better substitute it. I would like to get more people in on the discussion so that we can get this over with, but barely anyone posts in forums and no one posts on Talk pages anymore.

Ps I don't have any idea why there's a Sheihk picture below.

Unnamed planets and such

Hi! If you recall, at Thread:137098 it was established that articles beginning with names like "Unnamed planet", "Unnamed alien" and "Unnamed species" need to be renamed to remove the word "unnamed". In the thread, you mentioned that it's an easy job by bot.

User:OttselSpy25 has recently put a rename tag on several of these articles, so I thought I'd ask if you have the time to take care of this. If not, I can do it manually. It will take some time, but the thread is over two years old anyway so it's not like there's a rush.

And if we do this, how would it affect the dab page at Unnamed planet?

Thanks! Shambala108 03:29, October 29, 2015 (UTC)

I would argue that the dab actually is one of the few pages that should keep the 'unnamed' in the title, as a dab simply named 'Planet' would suggestedly need every planet both named an unnamed. Also there is obviously already a page named Planet on the topic. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 03:52, October 29, 2015 (UTC)

LEGO Dimensions

We've been having a discussion at Thread:176459 about LEGO Dimensions and we've reached a semi-consensus that, baring the odd Easter egg and the non-level based "world," it is possible to write a definitive narrative of the game as meant by the creators, as well of the fact and that the game sticks close enough to the DWU to have it not be deemed invalid because of it's basis in the 'LEGO' trademark.

The main consensus on the game is that the narrative fuction of the game is more important to if it's valid or not to if it looks all LEGO-ey. However, our decision sets many precedents on character customizations and Easter eggs (basically deciding that the former is in most cases part of the later and the later isn't part of the narative) and thus it's been agreed that we need you in on this before we even vote on the issue. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 05:10, November 9, 2015 (UTC)

Okay, didn't think that closing the discussion after making one decisive comment was something that you'd do. It seems a bit odd to close off a discussion questioning policy because "nah, we've decided this policy already." In fact, I'd say that the discussion arouse many issues with the policy that needs to be addressed and could have been fixed there. The ultimate outcome of this issue is that one day we'll get legitimate gaming out of Who that we deem invalid for small reasons, like choosing if pole a or pole b is better for climbing or deciding if Companion a or companion b should press a button. Perhaps "one day" is a bit much as it's clearly what's happening here. Furthermore, by the logic we've been putting games like this through, most every Who game ever made should be marked as invalid, the only ones remaining being lame, boring ones. We're extensively setting ourselves up for an entire genre of Who material being marked as a roleplaying adventure! because of tiny, itsy bitsy decisions which do not effect the narrative in the slightest but apparently make them invalid on this site and a basic misunderstanding of how video games work. I'm only bringing this up here because it would have and could have and has been brought up there, but the sudden closing of that discussion despite months of consensus has left the issue hanging off a cliff. I will never comprehend the continued shutting down of discussions on this site because they strive away from what is "right" by the minds of the few, while legitimate worries are aroused by the mainstream editors on the site.
But okay. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 23:00, November 9, 2015 (UTC)
I can understand that point of view, and I suppose it's good to have the discussion closed -- on the other note, however, while the discussion was started in July the game wasn't released until October, so all discussions before that point technically didn't matter and shouldn't have happened, as they were vague guesses off of the trailers and publicity pics. Furthermore, the rest of the Who levels were not released until a few weeks ago. So the discussion really has been going on for either less than a month or more than a month. That's be like if we started a discussion on a topic of the upcoming Christmas special now and then shut it down two days after the special aired because "it was open long enough."
I also hope you won't mind if some of the main discussions of the forum that did not have closure are (at some point) moved to another discussion about Video Games at a wider capacity, and how our treatment of them could be flawed. I truly believe that many of the issues aroused do need discussed, and I think that many of the policies envisioned within the last few weeks have been strong, even if they're different from what we have now.
Interesting to note as well that if the Doc is in the second Lego movie, our discussion didn't exclude that being a valid source. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 02:42, November 10, 2015 (UTC)
The reason that I wanted to have some of the topics in the discussion moved to another forum is that I don't believe that many of the topics that we brought up were truly covered in the final consensus of the forum. We heavily discussed possible changed to policy in terms of Easter eggs, swappable characters, and other issues. I feel like these ideas could be explored further and were only touched upon recently, and the final decision (which stuck to the precedents of previous discussions) did not cover these ideas -- some would argue (as did) that the ideas got far closer to how to actually cover video games on a wikia site. I was surprised that these talks of policy changes and alternates to our gaming code weren't already pushed off to another discussion as occurs in most instances of questioning policies. My point is that I don't believe that those parts of the discussion were actually concluded.
Again, the issue at hand here is not that you disagreed with any of my beliefs -- it is that you acted as if nothing new or nothing noteworthy had occurred in the discussion when this is far from true. We had in fact envisioned a way to seamlessly cover these stories and to more competently cover this genre of media in general. We had gotten many admins in on the decision and had a pretty strong consensus that it was going to work. To then have the discussion shut down because you didn't find anything interesting is a bit of an insult really, as you had not even brought up the supposed changes or basically any of the complex discussions that had occurred in the forum. Furthermore, I will not be lowering the amount of work that I am willing to put into this genre of Who media because you dislike them.
On the topic of NOTDWU, I would also like to ask you to look over the very important (and I think pretty logical) assessment of the prefix as Thread:180396. The current consensus at that forum is that INVALID or NOTVALID would be a far less confusion and more accurate prefix, as NOTDWU itself represents the now abandoned canon policy more than the validity concept. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 05:51, November 10, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response to the forum. It's really nice to have you back editing. There are other forums that need your attention, but I'll let you get to them as you get time. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 21:29, November 12, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the offer of help. I previously asked User:Shambala108 for technical help. It is when no help was provided and when another admin started uploading images over 100k that I started wondering if this policy even applies. I wouldn't want to point fingers publicly but, as an admin, you can probably check, e.g., an image uploaded at 14:51, November 11, 2015.

Anyway, since you have understood the kind of problems I was having (Preview on Mac does not seem to have the jpg quality controls that User:PicassoAndPringles mentioned), I would appreciate it if you could remove your supposition at the end of the former discussion at the Panopticon that I "choose" to ignore this limit. This supposition is untrue as you yourself seem to agree.Amorkuz 06:04, November 12, 2015 (UTC)
