New TARDIS Data Core page: Insurgent
Hi Shambala108,
Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know that I've created the page Insurgent for TARDIS Data Core.
I'd be grateful if you and the other caretakers could take a look when you get a spare moment, and make any changes you consider necessary.
Many thanks. -- Freddie R. Aldous ☎ 12:17, June 5, 2015 (UTC)

Could you clear something up for me?
Hi there,
I appear to have been blocked across both the English and Welsh Doctor Who Wikis for 'vandalism'. I'm not sure how anything I have done can be construed as vandalism. Moreover, what makes the whole situation more confusing, is that I've neither received a warning nor an explanation nor the opportunity to have a dialogue with those who blocked me. I've logged it in as an issue with the official Wiki people but was wondering whether you could enlighten me as to who did it and for what reason exactly.
For the past five-ish years, I've done nothing but help this Wiki grow stronger. And for the past couple of months, I've been putting a lot of time into making the Wiki correct and also helping the Welsh Wiki grow from twenty pages to a hundred and twenty. I'm providing new and interesting texts for young Welsh people and learners, something which is definitely lacking where that minority language is concerned and to have all my time and effort rewarded with a block is insulting.
Please could you help me by providing me with more information? And maybe report back how angry I am with the matter. The lack of communication is unreal and ridiculous. Imagine you getting blocked overnight with no idea what happened and with no-one telling you why?
Thank you for your time and help, 19:38, June 7, 2015 (UTC) (It won't let me sign. I'm "thefartydoctor".)
- Is it possible that you blocked me instead of User:Duncs_Kinnear-swift who had vandalised an infobox moments after my edit. I checked his page and you had left him another warning. Could this be the case? And maybe the ban on the Welsh Wiki was because my edit was adding a Welsh language link to the article? :/ TheFartyDoctor Talk 19:47, June 7, 2015 (UTC) (thefartydoctor)
- It seems I'm no longer blocked. I can't say I understand what happened but I'm glad it's over. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know if anything weird happens again. TheFartyDoctor Talk 20:17, June 7, 2015 (UTC)
Re: Insurgent
Hi Shambala108,
It wasn't until long after I had created the page Insurgent for TARDIS Data Core that I realized I should have called it 'Insurgent (The Dalek Invasion of Earth)' to differentiate between any other 'Insurgent' characters who may appear in Doctor Who in the future, and also to allow for an 'Insurgent' disambiguation page to be created at a later date.
I would be grateful if you and the other caretakers could look into changing the page title accordingly, and apologize for any inconvenience caused. I'll be more careful in future.
I await your reply with great interest. -- Freddie R. Aldous ☎ 10:25, June 11, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I know the rules about spoilers, and it was a mistake, and I'm sorry about that. I didn't think about the fact that it would also show up on the "Wiki Activity" page. --DCLM ☎ 13:17, June 11, 2015 (UTC)
Bernice Summerfield Video
Hi Shambala108,
Didn't know/forgot that only admins can upload videos, is it possible for you to upload the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qIUMVFM7pY&feature=youtu.be as it shows the recent Bernice Summerfield, and it is from the official Big Finish youtube page, so it should violate the other rules as far as I know.

Re: Moving pages
Sorry about that. I was honestly just trying to be helpful, as it had been over two weeks since you acknowledged the move request. If we're not allowed to move pages, you should be able to block it from happening - I noticed that you can't move pages on w:c:marvel. I don't know if it's a setting somewhere or if you need to ask Wikia, but it's definitely possible. Digifiend Talk PR/SS KR MH Toku JD Garo TH CG UM Logos CLG DW 13:34, 15/6/2015

Just a teeny request to link your BFX page to the Welsh version using the code 'cy'. The page is entitled exactly the same.

I'll go back over it and add any citations that I missed, but I mostly did add references in the edits. Sorry about the mistake though. The Fox King (talk) 05:32, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
I have now re-edited the article and added a reference that I missed. How do you think of it now? The Fox King (talk) 05:45, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
Hello Shambala. Lately, I've been trying to figure out how to italicise episode links and am wondering if how you do it is by going to the edit source page, using brackets to locate an episode, and adding two of ' outside the brackets on each side. Is that how it works? Or one way of italicising hyperlinks? The Fox King (talk) 02:56, June 28, 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll be doing that the next time I try and edit an article and add in citations. Much appreciated! The Fox King (talk) 03:25, June 28, 2015 (UTC)
I just tried correctly editing the Tenth Doctor article again. Could you please check out my edit and let me know if I did the italicising correctly, Shambala? The Fox King (talk) 03:51, June 28, 2015 (UTC)
Awesome! Thanks again for the help, and also for the advice you just gave me. I checked out that thread you mentioned and will try my best to operate by it from now on. The Fox King (talk) 05:08, June 28, 2015 (UTC)
Renaming pages
There are many characters which are unnamed in the SJA television series but are named in the novelisation. Of some characters first or last names are missing in the TV series which are mentioned in the novelisations. Forexample Cashier (Warriors of Kudlak) is named "Pam" in the novelisation and Randall (Eye of the Gorgon) is named "Edith Randall". Can I add a rename tag to these pages (+ there are several more)? If so: is it easyer for you if I use the Special:WhatLinksHere to move the links or should I just add the rename tag to the pages and let you change the links? Thanks for your help! --Dynara ☎ 06:32, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
- Okay then I'll just add the additional information from the novels and wait with rest until you can tell me more. Anyway thanks a lot for your help! You do a lot for this wikia and have already helped me a lot in the past. I really appreciate that. Thanks. --Dynara ☎ 14:14, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
Fox King
As much as it pains me to say this, especially when I started out in similar way, but I think the Fox King needs to be blocked on ground of repeated acts of vandalism by adding speculation to canon material, continuously not italicizing story links, and adding links that do not match up to sentences on the Tenth Doctor page.BananaClownMan ☎ 12:31, June 20, 2015 (UTC)
Novelisations and naming
Best naming practices are defined on this wiki by the intersection of T:VS and T:CHAR NAMES. That means that a more detailed name given in a novelisation is allowed within the body of an article – so long as the novelised name doesn't contradict the televised one — but that the title of the article should remain at the most recognisable televised name.
(And when "most recognisable" is debatable, then we usually hold a forum discussion to make a determination, as in the most infamous case, "Is it K9 or K-9?")
This isn't just an arbitrary thing that's been worked out. It's actually good SEO. Articles should be named in such a way that people can actually find them. In the example given from the SJA novelisation, Cashier (Warriors of Kudlak) is better for Google because that's a name people will be looking for. That is, they're far more likely to type into Google "the cashier from Warriors of Kudlak", or even "cashier Kudlak", than they are "Pam from Warriors of Kudlak". And both "cashier" variants put us at the top of the list — higher even than Wikipedia.
That said, I get that this is one of those things that non-DW fans will just think us mad to be spending time on. Heck even most DW fans might be thinking that this sort of detailed argument is one of the reasons that DW fans tend to get a bad reputation. But their fandom is likely expressed in ways where SEO is of minor concern. For us, it's the whole ballgame. We've got to do everything we possibly can to make it to the top of that search results list.
So, to sum up:
- article name: Cashier (Warriors of Kudlak)
- first line of article:
Pam (PROSE: Warriors of Kudlak), a cashier at Ealing's Combat 3000 in at least the year 2008, hated her job ...

DVD releases and miscellaneous
I'd like to request justification for the removal of my extensive editing of the aforementioned page: it has been reverted to a state which is hugely inaccurate, was written several years ago and therefore needs updating as to dating, and has much speculation and assumption. Being something of an expert on home audiovisual media and home theatre, I struggle to see what was superior about the previous state.
Also, in response to your comments on my talk page, I must apologise, but Wikia does not seem to work very well on the browser I am using. Therefore, it often refuses to allow me to save edits, and I therefore try to save regularly. I understand this causes the editing process to be more complex and may be construed as a means of 'having more edits'. However, it is not a case of my incompetence or naïveté.

Videos
I dont noticed that I have uploaded the Video. I only tryed to make it into a Article but than I saw that Im not in the position so I rerolled my edits. I thought it would delete the video too but it doesnt. Sorry. Also, I thought only videos from the BBC, BBC America and the official Doctor Who youtube channel videos must be uploaded, thats why I "deleted" the video. I think I dont make any edits anymore on this wiki because Im quite bad in english (native german). I very like the rules and the design of this wiki, and I sawed that the hebrew Wiki also had it. How can the design also come to the german wiki? I hope anytime soon the german Wiki is so tidy like the english wiki. Sorry, but im not very informed about designs. (I think only admins can change the design, isnt it?)

Hi! Just wanted to say Thank You for your assistance removing my contributions to the Wiki. I often forget that input from other people is not wanted here, and mistakenly try to add some bits of information that other readers might find interesting, sorry, my mistake, how silly. I'll try not to participate or make any changes in the future, the Wiki is good enough just the way it is. Cheers! --Captain Infinity ☎ 06:40, July 10, 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response on my talk page. What I was referring to is that you have reverted every single one of my edits on this Wikia. For the last few you haven't even bothered to include a reason for the revert. I understand that you believe that I am a newbie to Wiki editing but I can assure you this is not the case. I'm well aware of policies and advisory texts, perhaps you have heard of the one called "Please do not bite the newcomers"? I'm sad to say that, were I in fact new to the process, I would find your automatic reverts of every single edit rather discouraging, as I tried to indicate in my first comment. However, since I am very familiar with the habits of deletionists, page-owners and, sometimes, headstrong admins, I plan to keep on trying to improve this Wiki. My efforts may be fruitless, or perhaps you will see this entire paragraph as an personal attack and block me, I don't know. That's up to you. The first thing you posted to my talk page was a welcome message. I have to say, I have not felt welcomed at all. --Captain Infinity ☎ 03:43, July 21, 2015 (UTC)
Inter Wiki Project
Hello, I hope this message find you well. I am hoping to speak to this wiki about a project I am attempting to set up.
I am hoping to get editors from wikis to work together to assist each other. I have always felt we should help one another when possible, and that working on other wikis can teach us how to better our own community's. I am trying to set up a project where wiki's assist each other and hopefully everybody involved will be better off (editors and guest alike)
This wiki, being one of a well known topic, is one of those wikis that can do a great deal of help. I am hoping this community can assist with one of our projects.
These Questions on wikianswers are all related to Doctor Who, The Admins on this wiki (me being one of them) have agreed that should a wiki agree to help, any questions they answer or repair can contain a link to their main wiki. This will help them get questioned answered, and it helps you because they not only help the fans, but also link to you.
The Project is young, but I am hoping that other wikis, like this one, will join in and help better all wikis. I hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks, and happy editing.-Cheatcodechamp ☎ 08:16, July 10, 2015 (UTC)

Hello Shambala108, I am wondering why you deleted my additional information in the story "The Doctor's Wife" The information is accurate and, in the first instance, fleshes out the story a little, in the second, the sentence makes no sense unless "House" rather than "how" is intended, and in the final instance I add pertinent information to one of the sections. You have reversed several of my edits in the last week, do you have something against editing? I would really like to know why you are reversing my edits. I look forward to hearing from you. Bun GetBunger ☎ 05:36, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Hello again, The purpose of the edit has nothing to do with The Corsair. I had a much, much shorter version of the edit and it was deleted and so I keep adding details thinking that must be what everyone wants. The purpose of the edit is to show the continuity of the show and that way back when The Doctor's Wife was produced reference was made to the fact that Timelords can regenerate as either sex. The Master becoming a woman should really be no surprise. This reference to continuity should be in there. Thank you. BungBunger ☎ 06:04, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

FASA
In the days before the overhaul to the four little rules approach to defining the scope of the wiki, T:CAN used to actually try to list every possible thing that wasn't canon. Obviously, this approach was flawed because it instantly made people think we were trying to define "canon". More importantly, though, it forced a great deal of manual revision of T:CAN as new disallowed items were discovered.
However there was indeed a time when it was explicit that one of the things we didn't allow was "material from FASA's The Doctor Who Role Playing Game and other Role Playing games, as these sometimes contain histories and other information which conflicts with the television and prose stories."
For this reason you will sometimes find in the forum archives statements by me and others along the lines of what's in this thread: "...per our canon policy, FASA roleplaying games are flatly disallowed..."
Nowadays, we do things precisely the opposite. In the first place, we no longer allow disqualification simply because one thing contradicts another. And in the second, to make the VS policy more "evergreen" and less of a burden to manually maintain, we instead have a positive list of the things we do allow. And FASA ain't on it. So, at the most basic level, FASA doesn't count because it isn't on Tardis:Valid sources/Detailed list.
But if you're looking for a more substantive answer — and why wouldn't you be? — FASA falls foul of our four little rules. It's just not a narrative. Much of the stuff written by FASA would be considered "reference material", or at best "factual information delivered in an in-universe way". But there are plenty of examples at T:VS which show why that can't be allowed.
To the extent that there is an arguably narrative portion of the FASA material, it'd be the two Game Books, which GMs would use to conduct a game. And that's precisely why they aren't narratives, in the sense commonly understood at Tardis.
A story is a collection of facts that are the same to each person who experiences it, which allows a person in Zambia and a person in Australia to have the shared experience of knowing what events happened to which characters in the narrative.
As was pointed out at Forum:Doctor Who: Worlds in Time, The Mind of Evil happened to Jo, not Sarah.
By very stark contrast, RPGs would have us believe that they could happen to any character who is rolled into existence by their player. Thus people playing FASA DW in Michigan would have a different experience of the storyline than those assembled in Wales. The GM conducting the game might allow things that the Game Books don't specify. If you played FASA DW today you'd almost have to be allowed characters, situations or outcomes that the Game Books didn't contemplate — the stuff of the new series.
Put another way, the FASA Game Books are just the bare bones of the experience of that game. The reason you play it, rather than just read the Game Books in isolation from other people, is because of the inherent variation in the game. And the very lack of being able to say with certainty what happened to whom is why FASA Game Books aren't narratives, but narrative outlines. They aren't even the finished script of an episode. They are merely a rough draft into which players pour out their imagination.
In short, they are the conduit for improvised fan fiction. And of course we don't allow that.

Hi. Would it be possible to change http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Day_of_the_Doctor to a redirect to http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Doctor_(TV_story) instead of what it currently is, a note that the page has been deleted?
