Its second half started on the 27th of August 2011, with the episode Let's Kill Hitler.[1][2]. DWM 419 confirmed that it had been commissioned by the BBC, and producer Piers Wenger also announced the same at the BBC Press Launch for series five in March 2010[3].
Filming started in July 2010. This series was preceded by a 2010 Christmas Special, written by Steven Moffat. The series is split into two sections, with the first episode, The Impossible Astronaut airing on 23rd April 2011. It then paused after the seventh episode, A Good Man Goes to War was aired. The series picked up with the eighth episode, Let's Kill Hitler, in the Autumn and will run through to the final, thirteenth episode, The Wedding of River Song. Short prequels were released on the official site to publicise the series.[4]
Cast
Matt Smith returned as the Eleventh Doctor alongside Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams, the first male companion to do a complete series since 1975. Alex Kingston also returned as River Song.

Episode notes
- Steven Moffat has written 6 episodes: A Christmas Carol, The Impossible Astronaut, Day of the Moon, A Good Man Goes to War, Let's Kill Hitler and The Wedding of River Song.[61]
- Episode 9 was rumoured to be called What Are Little Boys Made Of?[source needed] Due to the length of the title, two alternatives were devised: House Call and Night Terrors. The episode was then confirmed as the last title, Night Terrors[62].
- Steven Moffat confirmed that the question Amy was going to ask the Doctor in Space will return in Series 6.[63]
Rumours
- In The Brilliant Book 2011, several "hints" about Series 6 were revealed.[64]
- Skaro may be revisited.[65]
- There will be an episode with an Egyptian theme.[66][67][68]
- This looks more positive now that a rumour has surfaced about the redesigned classic Cybermen returning, mummified in an Egyptian tomb, which will be written by Steven Thompson. [69]
- An Egyptian style pyramid, albeit adorned with a US flag is seen in the latest trailer for the second half of the season [70]
- Cybermen will also appear in episode twelve [71]
- Craig Owens may travel in the TARDIS.[72]
- Craig Owens has had a baby.[73]
- Paul McGann may return as the Eighth Doctor. [74]
- The Doctor will revisit the lake in Utah.[75]
- The Doctor will get married in the finale.[76]
DVD and Blu-ray release
The DVD release of Series 6 will be in two parts, unlike the past series which was released in four to five parts over the duration of the series. Part One, which will contain episodes one to seven will be released on 11th July 2011, shortly after the airing of episode seven.[77] Part Two will be released in the Autumn, shortly after episode thirteen is aired.[78] Both parts will be released as a box set in November.[79]
