Henry II

Henry II was a Plantagenet King of England, the husband of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the father of future kings Richard I and John, (PROSE: The King's Demons) and Princess Joanna. (TV: The Crusade)

He was descended from the Counts of Anjou. The Fifth Doctor once claimed that Eleanor had told John stories in his youth about one of Henry's ancestors who had been married to Melusine, Satan's daughter. (PROSE: The King's Demons)

Behind the scenes

Henry is only referred to as "King Henry" in The King's Demons but is clear that the text is referencing Henry II. It was he, rather than Henry I, who descended from the Counts of Anjou, through his father, Geoffrey Plantagenet. Additionally, Henry can be identified by his regnal number through the line of succession established in the story. This Henry is succeeded by his two sons, Richard and John, who are then followed by John's son Henry III, who is explicitly identified as such.
