Edward VI was a Protestant (AUDIO: The Marian Conspiracy [+]Loading...["The Marian Conspiracy (audio story)"]) King of England who reigned from 1547 to 1553. He was the son and successor of Henry VIII and the brother of future Queens Mary I and Elizabeth I. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo [+]Loading...["The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo (TV story)"])
Though Edward favoured Protestantism, his sister Mary refused to turn from Rome. Under Edward, it was permitted for the clergy to take wives as other men did. In Queen Mary's eyes, however, this was a great sin. (AUDIO: The Marian Conspiracy [+]Loading...["The Marian Conspiracy (audio story)"])
He died aged 15 (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo [+]Loading...["The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo (TV story)"]) on 6 July 1553 after a long period of illness.
