Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Following the death of King Edward VI on 6 July 1553, Lady Jane Grey was forced by her father and the Duke of Northumberland to claim the throne for herself on 10 July. In response, Mary gathered an army of 30,000 which was no match for Jane's 600. Mary claimed the throne on 19 July 1553. As Mary was a Catholic and Jane a Protestant, Mary was forced by her privy councillors to proclaim Jane to be a traitor who would be sentenced to death. It hurt Mary to execute her cousin. Mary once met the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn Smythe when they travelled back to 1555 to fix a time anomaly. On that occasion, the time travellers foiled a plot to assassinate her and place her sister, then imprisoned in the Tower of London, on the throne. At the time, Mary laboured under the misapprehension that she was pregnant by her husband, Philip II of Spain. In reality, she was experiencing a phantom pregnancy. She ultimately died childless four years after her encounter with the Doctor. (AUDIO: The Marian Conspiracy [+]Loading...["The Marian Conspiracy (audio story)"])
