Shawna Thompson was one of the hosts of The Blue Box Files, alongside her friends Abby McPhail and Cleo Proctor.

Cleo, Abby and Shawna met at university and they bonded over their mutual love of murder podcasts and hatred of their "alt right neckbeard neighbour". (AUDIO: SOS) After dropping out after three months, by 2022, Shawna lived in Sheffield, just a block away from Najia and Hakim Khan, (AUDIO: Hysteria) and became one of the hosts of The Blue Box Files, although in the position of the resident sceptic, calling herself the "voice of reason", (AUDIO: SOS) though she later admitted she became less sceptical as the years went on. After recording an episode based on the March of the Adipose, she began to hear rumours connecting the blue box to the Doctor, supposedly being the cause of missing persons cases and tried to warn her friends about it. (AUDIO: SOS)
Later, she witnessed police talking to Najia and Hakim Khan and expressed concern for them before recording an episode about the Judoon's abduction of the Royal Hope Hospital. Upon learning that Cleo was going to meet Rani Chandra, she began to worry that the mysterious cases might spread to her and confided in this to Abby. (AUDIO: Hysteria)
By 2023, Shawna and Abby were looking into Torchwood. The pair had developed a relationship and were moving in together. They had little memory of the events of the previous year. (AUDIO: Regrets [+]Loading...["Regrets (audio story)"])

Shawna once jokingly told Abby that, even though she was biased, "boys [were] rank". (AUDIO: SOS)
Once upon a time, Shawna was a One Direction fan, claiming Harry Styles was "an honorary lesbian" as far as she was concerned and that one had not seen mass hysteria unless they were at Sheffield Arena in 2015. (AUDIO: Hysteria)

Shawna worked in IT, (AUDIO: Regrets [+]Loading...["Regrets (audio story)"]) as a computer programmer, (AUDIO: Reboot [+]Loading...["Reboot (audio story)"]) and was therefore very skilled with computers, telling to Cleo that she could help the owner of the Blue Cube Forum if his website had been hacked or invaded by a virus. Cleo also assured Penny Carter that Shawna would be able to distort her voice, as to keep her identity a secret, during the interview she was giving to The Blue Box Files. (AUDIO: SOS) She also offered to go up to Glasgow and restore the corrupted files on Abby's laptop. (AUDIO: Hysteria)

- The BBC has yet to offer fully official visuals of the three main characters of Doctor Who: Redacted, Cleo, Abby and Shawna. However, On 29 April 2022, the official Doctor Who social media accounts reposted, with authorial permission, a piece of fan art which had been posted by instagram user "Rosie" (@rosiedoesartsometimes) on 25 April[2][1] As of April 2022[update], it remains the only visual of the character to have been released in an official context.
