Halifax was a town in Yorkshire. Tara Mishra and UNIT fought the Cybermen after they had converted half of the town. (COMIC: The Bidding War [+]Loading...["The Bidding War (comic story)"])

The Fourth Doctor landed in Halifax in 1979 but due to the "weird" language spoken by the natives believed himself to be on an alien world in an area called Ali-Fax. He found the inhabitants friendly and accepted an invitation from Albert and Elsie of staying with them in their "digs" at Back Wrangthorn Terrace. It was from here that the Doctor wrote his letter for issue 3 of Doctor Who Weekly although he doubted it would arrive in time due to the use of a "somewhat archaic" system known as the "geepe-o".
