The Emperor Type II was the designation given by Time Lord historians during the Last Great Time War for the huge, static casing housing the contemporary Dalek Emperor. It was a design also used by at least one further Emperor.

Characteristics

The most striking characteristic of the Emperor Type II casing (PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) was the clear tank that revealed the Dalek mutant, floating in a transparent liquid. This tank was topped by a giant Dalek dome similar to a Bronze Dalek's, complete with an eyestalk, and the structure was flanked by panels of armour dotted by gold sense globes with a ring-shaped "throne" on the bottom. (TV: The Parting of the Ways) Situated beneath the life-tank was a pair of deadly grappling arms which could be used to torture. History

Early history

Though most sources held that the Dalek Emperor inhabited what was known as the Emperor Type I casing at the time of Operation Human Factor and the subsequent Dalek Civil War, (TV: The Evil of the Daleks, PROSE: Dalek Combat Training Manual) one account of the Civil War had the Emperor as inhabiting the bronze Type II casing, and that his subordinates at the time were also bronze Daleks. After the Time War-era Dalek Emperor was finally killed by Rose Tyler when she became the Bad Wolf, (TV: The Parting of the Ways) what the Eleventh Doctor described as the old Emperor's "cradle", abandoned and visibly aged, remained in the city of Kaalann in the ruined Skaro of the post-Time War universe. After acquiring the Eye of Time, the New Dalek Paradigm returned to Skaro and installed a new Emperor Dalek in its place. This new Emperor cradle mostly resembled the Time War Emperor but with a shape closer to the New Paradigm Daleks (GAME: City of the Daleks) with a blue colouring which human historians associated with the New Paradigm's Strategist Daleks. (PROSE: Dalek: The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe) Travelling back with the Doctor to just before the Daleks returned to Skaro, Amy Pond placed a Vision Disruptor in the shell of the old Emperor, disabling the Daleks' eyepieces and allowing the Doctor to release the Eye of Time. This resulted in the alternate timeline the Daleks had established being erased, the new Emperor now having never been created. (GAME: City of the Daleks)

A new Emperor

The Twelfth Doctor knew that a Dalek Emperor had again taken over leadership of the Daleks by the time he took over someone's phone to send them a message, displaying an image of an emperor using the Type II casing. According to him, the Daleks and their Emperor had launched a plot to use the internet to convert the people of the 21st century into Dalek drones, which was something he needed to put a stop to sooner or later. Psychoplasmic duplicate

One of the psychoplasmic constructs used in the Dalek Dome to recreate various eras of Dalek history was an Emperor of this type. Alongside other duplicate Dalek leaders, he formed a temporary alliance with the Fourteenth Doctor after the Golden Emperor breached containment and attempted to invade the real world, threatening to drain all the other psychoplasmic zones in the process. The Dalek Emperor as he appears in LEGO Dimensions.

A Dalek Emperor of identical appearance to the one as seen in TV: The Parting of the Ways and WC: The Twelfth Doctor's been Timejacked! appeared in the video game LEGO Dimensions. It was also voiced by Nicholas Briggs with the same voice effect as The Parting of the Ways. However, the game, due to its branching story, is not considered valid on the Tardis Data Core.

Merchandise

• A figurine of The Parting of the Ways Emperor was given as a gift to subscribers of the Doctor Who: Figurine Collection magazine. Because of its size this oversized figurine has a reduced scale of 1:42 but still stands 22cm tall.

Other matters

• The 2005 releases of The Parting of the Ways and the audio story Terror Firma, in which Davros' original personality gave way to "the Emperor", gave rise to a theory which suggested that Davros was destined to become the Emperor seen in The Parting of the Ways. This was acknowledged by AHistory, which noted that this theory was officially denied by Big Finish. Davros's return in The Stolen Earth and subsequent stories firmly established that Davros and the War Emperor were separate individuals and that Davros had returned to his original personality by the Last Great Time War.
