Animated films and characters[[edit] | [edit source]]

Story notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- An instrumental of the song, Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing) by Benny Goodman plays across both episodes.
- Apart from the Doctor's presence promoting The Snowmen, the story contains direct references and nods to various other programs from BBC One's Christmas 2012 line-up:
- That year's Christmas specials for the shows Mrs. Brown's Boys, Call The Midwife, Outnumbered, Miranda, and EastEnders were all promoted by the appearance of characters from said shows.
- Craig Revel Horwood appears to promote the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, on which he is a judge.
- The television adaptation of David Walliams' children's book, Mr Stink, is promoted by Walliams' appearing as his character, the Prime Minister.
- The UK terrestrial television premieres of three animated films are also referenced:
- A "princess" and a "frog" are mentioned, referring to Tiana and Naveen of Disney's The Princess and the Frog. Naveen, in his frog form, makes a cameo appearance at the end of episode 2. A dancer wearing what appears to be Tiana's trademark gown can also be seen.
- Sarah and Rob come face to face with several balloons, said to be from Disney and Pixar's Up.
- Sarah and Rob go to a dressing room that is said to belong to Shrek, the titular character from the Shrek series; the premiere of his fourth film, Shrek Forever After, being among the programming.
- An out of character non-fiction behind the scenes Christmas message titled "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" was released in conjunction with this.
