Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]

Doom needs to protect Martin Tyr, a regular civilian, from any harm that others might deal him.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

Doom takes the blindfold off of Martin Tyr who asks where he is. Doom tells him he is safe and that is all that matters. He asks if they’re in the Badlands, to which she replies that it’s not so bad once he gets used to it, saying she could maybe settle there. He asks her who she is, but she tells him that she cannot say, not yet, and that she’s a friend. He asks what to call her, and she figures it’s of no matter, telling him that her name is Doom.

(the above paragraph documents a later addition to the storyline which wasn’t present in the originally released story)

Martin thinks the name unusual. Doom replies that she blames Mum. Martin thanks her, calling her "Ms. Doom", for saving him, but before he can name them, Doom interrupts him by calling them an "organised crime syndicate" and "independent wealth redistributors", and brushes him off. She then says just to call her "Doom" without "Ms.", like a pop star name, only not as cool. Martin then tells her he has to get back to his group. Doom replies that they’ll find him and he has an important place to be. Martin then asks her if she is part of the resistance, but she replies that she just happened to be at the right time in the wrong place. Martin, suspicious, ask her if she just happened to be passing by the dangerous part of town. She replies that she likes the food.

She adds that specifically the curries are the best, adding on she only had 9 hours and 25 minutes to live so she was lucky to squeeze one in. Martin then recalls that's when she saw him getting dragged off with a sack on his head which Doom remarks almost made her spill her curried Spooge. Martin then asks her if she knows what they put in those, which Doom says is all the best artificial ingredients, saying she’s allergic to natural things. Martin then recalls that she then subdued the guards and disabled their security systems, to which Doom adds she also distracted what she believed to be their dogs with treats. Martin then ask, suspicious, if all that was because she just happened to drop by, to which Doom just replies "Best. Curries. Anywhere.".

They go off to the town square, Doom saying they can hide there until the guard shift changes. Martin is surprised to learn that tactic works, thinking it was just a holovid cliche. Doom tells him that nobody starts work right away, first wanting a coffee and a chin wag. Martin then asks if she's worried about criminals coming for her but she isn't as she will be gone, asking him why. Martin ask if she isn’t curious why he was in the bad part of town, which she replies that it is none of her business in a few minutes. Martin explains he was in the there as there is a forger there who could replicate a high level pass for him. Doom then mocks him as not being level-headed. He then explains that he wanted to access the archives and obtain proof of the disappearances.

Doom tells Martin to wait there, as their contact will meet them as sunrise. Martin worries because the town square is awfully exposed, but Doom assures him that nobody will try anything illegal in a public area with CCTV around, but Martin adds he's also wanted by the police for political dissident. Doom isn't surprised, which Martin finds odd. She explains that she has read his articles and being a big fan, just like The Silent Enigma. Martin adds the Supreme Leader wasn't painted in a good light. Doom says she has read kinder descriptions of Daleks.

Martin is surprised to know Doom knows that The Silent Enigma has a warrant out for him. Doom replies that she didn’t say that, yet, but that they’ve noticed him and are watching. Martin says they have facial software on the CCTV and that they'll know he's there, which will be bad past curfew and without his travel documents. Doom interrupts him, telling him to keep his voice down amd that it is part of the plan. Martin finds it strange how someone not from around can know so much about him, to which she replies that she saw his biopic on the history streamer and that it got 5 million Likes. Martin is surprised to know she’s from the future. She replies that originally she was but that she got bored as everything already happened at this point in time.

Martin then asks that if she knows their future, to tell him something, but Doom interrupts him, saying that if she was from his future she could not say anything. Martin protests that she isn’t, saying she’s an outworlder and bet that she’s not even chipped. Doom sarcastically says that she is now hungry again, for chips. Martin begs her to answer his question on whether they succeed in liberating themselves and their planet from the regime. Doom says that they are in the future, but the fight is not short nor easy. Martin asks if the Supreme Leader is overthrown, to which Doom says that he is dragged through the streets by a horse, then corrects herself that it was a truck.

Martin excitedly exclaims that those are wonderful news even if it’ll take a few years, to which Doom replies that it’s "pints all around". Martin then asks about the fate of his family which Doom wishes he hadn't asked. Scared, he says he has to warn them to get out of town before it is too late, but Doom says it won't work and there's no time, despite him begging her to use her time travel to save his spouse and children, which she can't as she doesn't dictate things.

Martin is confused by her answer, asking why she can't save them as she knows what happens. Doom reiterates that "No": she can’t save them, "Yes": she knows what happens. Martin protests that she can travel through time. She says that she has no control over when and where she goes, they do. Martin tells her he can’t stay and has to try and warn them. Doom reiterates that it is too late and she’s sorry. He asks if they’re dead already, to which she says that he’ll see them soon. Martin is confused, and Doom says he doesn’t have to understand, he just has to die.

Martin is confused as he feels fine and feels… Doom interrupts him, asking him if he feels no pain. He says he doesn’t feel anything and that he’s completely numb, asking why. Doom says the poison worked and he won’t feel what she does next. Martin is confused, and Doom explains that he will become a martyr, a respectable member of society murdered by the state, and that people will see his corpse at sunrise when everyone travels to work, and while people tolerate fascism because it usually doesn’t affect them and it’s always someone else they don’t care about, Martin will be a different story, a respectable middle class man left for dead by the police. This will shock the public out of complacency and starts the revolution.

Back on her usual resting spot, Doom wants to make sure things went as planned, and uses her Monocle to tune into Radio Free Urbsbandi. The radio news breaks of Professor Martin Tyr's death in Caster Square. While the state denied involvement, which Doom bickers is typical, the news reported his injuries are consistent with known police weaponry and the broadcaster adds that the Minister speculated an outside party was trying to implicate them, which Doom again foresaw. The broadcaster announce that the existence of The Silent Enigma were now confirmed among their ranks. Doom taunts them as not being silent anymore.

Doom asks her vortex manipulator where to next, reflecting on how much of a waste this mission was in regards to finding the Doctor, and on top of that just made her feel bad, wishing for the next mission will give her something more "Doctor-y". The Vortex manipulator responds with beeps, which irritates Doom prompting her to call the device manipulative. More beeps, telling her that the mission was a success, irritating Doom further, prompting her to get impatient. More beeps, as the vortex manipulator tells her that her next mission is on a cruise ship, which Doom is pleased with. More beeps as Doom prepares to make the time jump to her new location.
