Sedna
Sedna was a planet in the solar system discovered by humans in 2003. It was the home of the Siccati race, who called it Vermill. (PROSE: Neptune) By Steven Taylor's time it was classified as a dwarf planet. (AUDIO: The Anachronauts)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
The ruins of the Siccati city were discovered when humans first set foot on Sedna in the late 21st century. (PROSE: Sedna)
In Steven Taylor's native time period, there was a human city on Sedna. (AUDIO: The First Wave) He once delivered some Planhab assemblies, a type of flatpack colony building, to the planet. (AUDIO: The Bounty of Ceres) In a little under two weeks he had helped put up a city on the planet using these prefabricated buildings. (AUDIO: The Anachronauts, The First Wave)
A song in the 41st century was known as "Just Arrived on Sedna". (PROSE: The Best Joke I Ever Told)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
In a few years' time, people may be reading this volume of short stories and saying, 'That Andy Frankham, can't even get the name of the planet correct!' Rest assured, it was the editor's decision to go with Sedna, so blame Gary Russell when, one day, it's really known as Vulcan... or Xena... or Caligula... or...
- The Editor's Note from Gary Russell in Short Trips: The Solar System acknowledges the controversy around the "tenth planet", which was then recently discovered in 2003 and "confirmed as a planet" in July 2005. In September 2004, the International Astronomical Union accepted the name Sedna, but it was not officially recognised when the anthology went to press.
- Russell further said the name reverted to 2003 UB313, its original designation. This was, however, a designation for Eris, not Sedna.
- While Sedna was accepted as the name for this body, it is not considered the tenth planet of the solar system. It is now seen a possible dwarf planet.
