Astronaut Marinka Talanov was due to enter the Moon's orbit in Vostok 7, but, due to complications, she instead appeared to get a form of amnesia. The Doctor recommended that they bring her back to Earth at once, which would take around four days. When Vostok 7 returned, it was discovered that Talanov had been replaced by the dog Laika, who had been given an artificial larynx and a brain augmentation that made her sentient.
