The Coal Hill Space-Time Rift, also known as the Rift, the Tear and the Bunghole of Time, (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo) was a time rift located at Coal Hill Academy. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die, et al.)
It was created due to the high levels of artron energy at Coal Hill Academy, and the school became the site of various alien incursions, which were neutralised by the Coal Hill defenders. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die, et al.) The opening of the rifts was unpredictable, but the Imperial Daleks were able to carry out the complex calculations necessary. (AUDIO: In Remembrance)
The Seventh Doctor became aware of temporal abnormality at Coal Hill in 2016 immediately following the Shoreditch Incident of 1963. Ace believed that he had forgotten about this after the Doctor's TARDIS was attacked by a Bandril timeship. (AUDIO: In Remembrance) The Twelfth Doctor, however, was well aware that time had "worn thin" at Coal Hill. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
Following several alien incursions at the school such as the Cold, (PROSE: Time and Relative) the Daleks (TV: Remembrance of the Daleks) and a Skovox Blitzer, (TV: The Caretaker) the tear was opened up in October 2016 (TV: For Tonight We Might Die) by the Shadow Kin. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart, Brave-ish Heart)
The first aliens to enter through to Earth were a pair of Leaf Dragons, and one of them became imprinted onto the skin of Coach Dawson. (TV: The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo) The next to enter were the Shadow Kin and Corakinus, who used the tear to hunt down and kill Charlie Smith and Andrea Quill, the last Rhodian and Quill respectively. This incursion was stopped by the Twelfth Doctor, who left the school in the safe hands of a group of students. (TV: For Tonight We Might Die)
In late October 2016, a vine-like creature known as the Lankin entered the tear and attempted to feed off Tanya Adeola but it was forced back through the tear by the rest of the group. (TV: Nightvisiting) In November, a single carnivorous flower petal entered the tear, and within a couple of days it had multiplied into millions other petals and were slowly starting to consume humans. Charlie was nearly forced to activate the Cabinet of Souls to defeat the petals, but they were destroyed by the returning Shadow Kin now under the control of April MacLean. (TV: Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart, Brave-ish Heart). Later on in November a fragment of a prison that looked like an asteroid fell through the tear after it appeared in front of it. The arrival of the prison took Class B3 of Coal Hill Academy out of normal time and space after it exploded on entry. The intelligence held within force several members of the Coal Hill defenders to confess truths to each other in order for information on how to escape. Charlie Smith later destroyed the prisoner after fighting against its will. (TV: Detained)
