He was mistakenly believed by the Twelfth Doctor to be Clara's boyfriend, whereas she was actually dating Danny Pink. The Doctor noted that Adrian's appearance was reminiscent of his previous incarnation, complete with bow tie. Taking pride, the Doctor noted that Adrian did remind him of "a certain dashing young time traveller", with Clara assuming he was referring to Danny and his resemblance to his time travelling descendant Orson Pink. When Danny discovered the Doctor's true nature, Danny summarised Clara's explanation by saying that he was an alien who used to look like Adrian before turning into a Scottish caretaker.
