A thirteen-release batch in the Main Range audio series was released by Big Finish Productions in 2019.
Overview[[edit] | [edit source]]
The 2019 releases for the Main Range saw the Big Finish introductions of two characters who had previously appeared in the television series: Kamelion and Mags.
Kamelion first appeared in the serial The King's Demons, and later appeared in Planet of Fire and The Caves of Androzani, but never had a major role as a companion on the television series. Starting with Devil in the Mist, the character was played by Jon Culshaw.
The other returning character was Mags, a werewolf who appeared in the Seventh Doctor serial The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. Following her initial story, where she aided the Doctor and Ace in the Psychic Circus, Mags started travelling the universe searching for a new home. She eventually crossed paths with the Doctor again, though Ace was long gone by then. The stories featuring her dealt with her lycanthropy, and how she tried to deal with it.
For the Sixth Doctor trilogy, Nicola Bryant returned as Peri, reprising her role alongside Colin Baker for the first time since 2014's The Rani Elite.
In the second batch of stories featuring the Fifth Doctor, a new companion Marc was introduced. It also marked the first Main Range release where Scott Handcock acted as producer.
With the appearances of Samuel Barnett's Cicero and Laura Riseborough's Terentia, Tartarus was a crossover with the Big Finish Originals series Cicero, which began in 2018 and was also produced and directed by Scott Handcock.[1]
The last story in 2019's batch of releases features the Sixth Doctor and Peri in another anthology of four Christmas stories.
