The King's Arms was a pub located in London by late 2023.
They served beers from brands which included Schelner's Brewery and Gruenbrau Brewery. (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"])
History[[edit] | [edit source]]
Ruby Sunday's band travelled to the pub on 22 December 2023 for a small, low-paying gig (which Ruby didn't complain about as she needed the money) to perform their "usual set" of Christmas songs, some old classics, some crowd-pleasers, and some "newer, cooler" Christmas anthems. Before getting on stage, Ruby had playfully fought with Trudy to wear a tinsel scarf, leaving bits of it in the latter's hair, whilst Clark laughed so much his tears ruined his David Bowie-inspired eyeliner. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"})
They opened with "One More Sleep", the Fifteenth Doctor being present from this point, unbeknownst to the band members. (TV: The Devil's Chord [+]Loading...["The Devil's Chord (TV story)"]) As they were performing "Winter Wonderland" — Trudy singing, Ruby playing the musical keyboard, Clark "lovingly" playing the guitar, and Big Jim drumming — (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) a Goblin pulled the plug on Ruby's musical keyboard, (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"]) and she reasoned that a fuse must have blown. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) After their audiences' brief moment of startle, a woman who looked vaguely like a hippy asked them to perform "Gaudete", but Trudy was unfamiliar with the song (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"]) and also told the woman that the band didn't take requests. Ruby hid her smile at Trudy's behaviour. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TCoRR","page":"13-16","chaptnum":"Three","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"}) Unbeknownst to them, the Fifteenth Doctor was watching them, having witnessed the whole debacle. (TV: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"])
The next day, in a nightclub, as the group discussed what happened at the gig, Trudy revealed that she had discovered the unplugged plug. (PROSE: The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...{"name":"TC0oRR","page":"17-18","chaptnum":"Four","1":"The Church on Ruby Road (novelisation)"})
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The pub wasn't named until TV: The Devil's Chord [+]Loading...["The Devil's Chord (TV story)"], when the Doctor told Ruby he saw her perform. The name for the pub and Ruby's band had however been present in The Church on Ruby Road [+]Loading...["The Church on Ruby Road (TV story)"], albeit on obscured posters for the set dressing. These were revealed by assistant graphic designer Sophie Cowdrey.[1]
