C'rizz was a companion of the Eighth Doctor.
A Eutermesan, C'rizz joined the Doctor and Charlotte Pollard shortly after they arrived in the Divergent Universe.
Biography
Early life
C'rizz lived in the Eutermesan Zone (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon) and was a broodling of the third order. He entered into the Church of the Foundation as a child and was mentored by his father, Guidance, proving to be an enthusiastic follower of the religion. His role as an adept required him to murder others in accordance with the Church's teachings that salvation could only be achieved by death, having become a vessel for those he killed.
After three years of engagement, C'rizz married L'da, (AUDIO: The Next Life) for whom he left the Church (AUDIO: Absolution) and whose family he would later credit with saving him from them. (AUDIO: The Next Life) Despite this, at the ceremony he was given a moonstone pendant by his father (AUDIO: The Last) which served as one half of a key that could open a portal between the Divergent Universe and N-Space. It was during the wedding that the Kromon invaded Eutermes. (AUDIO: The Next Life)
C'rizz lost most of his friends and family to the Kromon. (AUDIO: The Last) Like the rest of their surviving people, he and L'da were enslaved and taken to the Alpha Sphere where they were selected to serve as royals, which required them to drink an elixir which would turn them into Kromon. (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon)
Meeting the Doctor
C'rizz and L'da were taken to a laboratory to be force-fed the elixir. However, his body rejected it and he fled into the desert in fear, being found dehydrated by the Eighth Doctor and Charlotte Pollard after being left for dead by a flying car which chased him. They took him to drink at a nearby river and, in the morning, the trio went to save L'da from the Alpha Sphere, C'rizz using the name "Z'ricc" so the Kromon would continue to believe that he was dead.
Assigned to the gardening labour force, C'rizz was made to take the elixir once again and was saved by the Doctor and Charley from execution after his body once again rejected it and learnt that L'da was to be used in a hybridisation experiment. Upon finding her and hearing her beg for death, he shot and killed her and was only stopped from killing himself by the Doctor. He went on to kill the Kromon scientists, save his enslaved people and entered the Interzone with the Doctor and Charley, believing there was no longer any reason for him to stay (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon) and wanting to see new places. (AUDIO: The Twilight Kingdom)
As a companion
Divergent Universe
C'rizz, the Doctor and Charley arrived in Light City on Jubilee Day and gave their memories for the infotainment shown to the proles. It was during the broadcast of the episode in which C'rizz met the Doctor and Charley that the screens in South Plaza were blown up. (AUDIO: The Natural History of Fear) After leaving, the Kro'ka sent the trio to Setarus where a cave creature influenced C'rizz to want to join Major Koth's army before he resisted. (AUDIO: The Twilight Kingdom)
In the Multihaven, C'rizz attempted to relax to deal with the trauma he sustained in the Alpha Sphere and became influenced by Miraculite and Laan Carder of the 23rd Church of Lucidity. He attempted to strangle Charley, believing that she was L'da, before the Doctor snapped him out of it and he was given treatment by Garfolt, who was able to erase his guilt. (AUDIO: Faith Stealer) In Excelsior's country, C'rizz was separated from the Doctor and Charley for a time and befriended Requiem, who he later learnt was dead. (AUDIO: The Last) He encountered an obelat in Caerdroia and, upon finding the TARDIS, he was astonished by the size of its interior. (AUDIO: Caerdroia)
C'rizz later found himself trapped in a dreamweaver from Caerdroia and entered a dream in which he was reunited with L'da. His anger with the Kro'ka caused his feelings from his time with the Church to resurface and was blackmailed by Rassilon, who threatened to allow Charley to hear the cries of his victims, into assisting him on the forge world. He was reintroduced to the teachings of the Church by his father, whose death he witnessed, but ultimately turned against Rassilon and rejected his offer of beginning his life cycle again. Ultimately, he decided that he liked who he was with the Doctor and Charley and left with them for N-Space, although his relationship with Charley had been damaged by his actions. (AUDIO: The Next Life)
N-Space
C'rizz and Charley were imprisoned by the Daleks shortly after arriving in N-Space and discussed their friendship, with C'rizz wanting to prove himself worthy once again of her trust despite his past. They escaped with help from Gemma Griffin, a Dalek agent who tested him for her masters, who decided that he would make an ideal Emperor for their rebellion against Davros. They were unsuccessful in their plans and he left with the Doctor and Charley, but not before killing Gemma. In his bedroom, he wondered if he would have to "save" his companions in the same way at some point. (AUDIO: Terror Firma)
Due to C'rizz's ambivalence to the artificial gardens inside the TARDIS, the Doctor flew them to Endarra where C'rizz learnt that he could not change history. Under the control of Eunis Flood, he shot the Doctor, although he was able to fight hard enough to change the setting on Flood's gun. (AUDIO: Scaredy Cat) He had to remain in the TARDIS when it landed in 1851 London because of his appearance, only leaving after a returning Charley told him to fetch the Doctor. He was locked up and forced to participate in a freakshow by Jacob Crackles, whom he crippled and blinded upon being rescued. (AUDIO: Other Lives)
On Industry, C'rizz was found to have knowledge that could be of use to the Figurehead and he was given the job of data transcript clerk in the Organic Resources Department. (AUDIO: Time Works) He made sure to suppress his thoughts in the Cube to keep the telepaths from reading them, although Tessa Waylund saw that part of his mind when using her powers to heal him. (AUDIO: Something Inside) His chameleonic mind proved useful on Lucentra where he was able to melt a cell away with his shifting desires. (AUDIO: Memory Lane)
C'rizz once attacked bystanders in King's Cross station before the Doctor and Luke Tillyard knocked him out and took him back to the TARDIS. (PROSE: Salva Mea) In the 1870s, he, the Doctor and Charley met a future Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller in an American frontier town. (AUDIO: The 100 Days of the Doctor)
Death
C'rizz was contacted in his dreams by Aboresh, whom he met after Charley accidentally activated the Absolver and the souls within escaped to Utebbadon-Tarria. Aboresh told him that he was the key to the world's salvation and he found himself to be incredibly powerful on the planet, eventually losing control and almost killing Straith. Upon reuniting with his friends, by which point he had evolved to look like the Devil, he told them that the souls had not been in the Absolver but in himself.
Believing Borarus to be the destiny of the souls he had absorbed, C'rizz refused the Doctor's insistence that he reclaim them and planned to "save" both the Doctor and Charley, saying that he had no choice. However, the Doctor told him that he had free will and C'rizz instead chose to absorb the genetic assimilator to protect his friends, reverting to his previous form. He said goodbye and died without fear, believing that he would be reunited with L'da. (AUDIO: Absolution)
Legacy
When the Eighth Doctor was about to regenerate, he remembered C'rizz among his past companions. (TV: The Night of the Doctor)
The Twelfth Doctor saw C'rizz, among other companions, when Bernice Summerfield was hit by temporal energy in the Pyramid Eternia. (PROSE: Big Bang Generation)
Personality
C'rizz acknowledged that he had a different set of principles and beliefs to the Eighth Doctor and Charley. As he was once a priest, he was unsettled by his sudden liking for warfare (AUDIO: The Twilight Kingdom) and his willingness to kill, (AUDIO: The Creed of the Kromon) having been brought up in the ways of peace. (AUDIO: The Twilight Kingdom) Despite his willingness to kill, he was appalled by euthanasia. (AUDIO: The Last) His murderous urges were cooled by L'da, who restored him to sanity. (AUDIO: The Next Life) With effort, he could fight the returning urges. (AUDIO: Other Lives)
His guilt for killing his wife weighed him down as he was unsure as to whether he acted in compassion or panic. He did not have much of a sense of humour and thought that it was natural to want to fit in with people.
