"Scientist Dalek", or "Dalek Scientist", was a specialised caste in the hierarchy of the Dalek Empire. Its role was to examine and formulate new weapons as well as to analyse the genetic and physiological make-up of the Daleks' enemies so that their weaknesses could be isolated.
History
Duel of the Daleks
Zeg was a Dalek Scientist who conducted experiments to strengthen dalekanium, the alloy which composed the Dalek casings. When his laboratory was struck by an Oquolloquox, the experiment he was conducting with artificial sunlight exploded and exposed him to radiation that bonded with his casing; creating a much stronger metal he called Metalert, but also drove him insane. Dalek Scientists were among many who tried and failed to destroy him with their gunsticks. He challenged the Dalek Emperor for supremacy.
