Letters Special (short story)
From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
Letters Special was a short story printed in Action 21 that contained elements from the Doctor Who universe. It functioned both as a Dateline 2089 story and as a 21 story; letters addressed to Brent Cleever took over the entire page but they referenced or tied-in to specific news stories from previous and current issues of the magazine much like in Dateline.

Characters
Worldbuilding
- Andrew has never heard of Bill Portreeve even though Sam Shore stated in a previous edition of Action 21 that he was Marineville's last hope.
- Portreeve was born on 25 May 2057 in Tulsa and was educated at the World Naval Academy in San Diego, later joining the World Navy Submarine Service in 2076.
- Portreeve made headlines in 2077 when his submarine, the Valiant, was seized in Bereznik waters. He escaped from port jail with his crew and was helped by Universal Secret Service agent Sam Loover across the border into Poland.
- Portreeve was transferred to the World Aquanaut Security Patrol in 2078 and served for five years as the navigator to Captain Holden, the first commander of Stingray.
- In 2084, Portreeve was made commander of Dragonet.
- It takes Zero X six weeks to reach Mars from Earth whereas it takes Fireball XL5 much less time but longer than "minutes".
- The reason for this difference is as Zero X was built to explore Mars, it was fitted with "slow but sure" engines but XL5 was built to patrol the solar system so its engines emphasise speed.
- Brad Holden is now better known as Captain Grey of Spectrum.
Story notes
- This story is the first with Doctor Who universe elements to feature a character originally from Joe 90, namely Sam Loover. The World Intelligence Network was also mentioned in previous Joe 90 crossovers.
Continuity
- Nick asks if the chances of peace with Astra are finished after the assassination of the Kaplan in Unity City. (COMIC: Assassination!)
- Cleever states that he visited Astra "twenty years ago" when Earth was quite friendly with the Astrans and made some firm friendships. (COMIC: Andromeda Or Die)
- The World Space Patrol could not help Zero X when it ran into trouble on Mars because events on the Astran border kept them busy. (PROSE: 'Jinx Ship' Blasts Off For Mars)
