Biography

In 1941, Winston Churchill asked for a message to be sent to Attlee to arrange a War Cabinet meeting to discuss the Dalek threat. (TV: Victory of the Daleks ^[+]Loading...["Victory of the Daleks (TV story)"])

Attlee went on to defeat Churchill in the 1945 general election which followed the Second World War, becoming Prime Minister. (AUDIO: Living History ^[+]Loading...["Living History (audio story)"], Churchill Victorious ^[+]Loading...["Churchill Victorious (audio story)"]) The public voted in favour of Attlee after Churchill compared his opponent to the Nazi Gestapo in a speech shortly before the election. Although the Monk attempted to change the results of the election under the alias "Simon Saunders" and acting as advisor to Churchill. "Saunders" talked Churchill out of the Gestapo comparison, however the Seventh Doctor stressed that Attlee's victory was a fixed point in time and acted to prevent the changes. In 1947, Attlee instructed Sir William Penney to design and build a nuclear bomb in an operation known as Project Hurricane. (AUDIO: The War Factory ^[+]Loading...["The War Factory (audio story)"])

The Festival of Britain on the South Bank in 1951 was Atlee's idea to remind the British people of their former glories. At the same time, Attlee was unable to see that the British Empire was falling apart. By October of that year, Winston Churchill had been voted back in as Prime Minister. • Attlee was played by Patrick Troughton in Edward & Mrs. Simpson, Bill Paterson in Into the Storm, Simon Chandler in The Crown and David Schofield in Darkest Hour.
• Timewyrm: Exodus ^[+]Loading...["Timewyrm: Exodus (novel)"] references real-world Nazi plans, discovered after World War II, to arrest many significant British figures during Operation Sealion. Known as The Black Book in real life, Attlee was on that list.
