Commander Marianne Kyle was an inhabitant of the Inferno Earth.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Kyle had no counterpart on N-Space Earth.

Kyle's father abandoned the family when she was a young girl, which left her with a distrust of all men in general. When she was old enough she took advantage of the Party's policy of female emancipation and joined the military. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)

In the 1950s, Kyle was a British Army officer stationed at a military base near Leipzig in Germany. In 1959, she conducted a lengthy experiment interrogating Lethbridge-Stewart, believing him to be an agent of a foreign government. Along with James Lethbridge-Stewart she was one of the founder members of the Republican Security Forces. (PROSE: The Schizoid Earth)

Kyle was once married, but she denounced her husband, another military officer named Geoff, to the authorities when he started considering defecting to Australia. Geoff was imprisoned at a labour camp and was presumed dead after I-Day. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)

She was one of the survivors after Eric Stahlmann's drilling project at Eastchester nearly destroyed her world. As the most senior surviving British government official she de facto replaced Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart as acting President of the Republic. After capturing Koschei, they used him to try to escape to this Earth. Kyle became the Master's accountant for a time. The Master eventually destroyed the dimensional link between the two worlds, stranding Kyle from her Earth, and allowed her to escape to fight another day — as well as hoping she might make trouble for the Doctor at some time in the future. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)

Her favoured weapon was a VP70M machine pistol. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Any future encounters between Marianne Kyle and the Doctor, as the Master hopes will occur following the events of The Face of the Enemy, remain unrecorded. It is possible that Kyle from Bullet Time is Marianne, but no link has been drawn between the two characters.
