Interdimensional Hijinks

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

On Skaro, a Dalek is shouting "exterminate". River Song chastises the Dalek for being a broken fascist record, then is horrified to find the the TARDIS arriving and even more to see the Tenth Doctor stepping out. The Doctor asks her what she is doing here. River begins to explain as the Doctor is mysteriously whisked away, disappearing into the air, and in his place, two space mariners are standing in his place. A confused Brad Boimler asks where they are and what’s going on. Beckett Mariner tells him to chill as this isn’t the first time they’ve gone through a weird portal-thingie. - Brad recaps that they went through a portal and ended up where they are, then says he doesn’t like the place, saying he is not sure why but he feels like he is somewhere familiar yet different. Beckett tells him to not overthink it, as it’s just interdimensional travel. She say she will bet it will be wrapped up in about 40 minutes, give or take.

River asks them who they are and where the Doctor is. Brad tells her that he is acting Captain Boimler and that the girl is Ensign Mariner of the U.S.S. Cerritos, asking if she’s looking for "The" Doctor, saying that he used to be in Voyager but that he doesn’t know where he is now. Beckett tells River that that is their story, demanding her to tell them her's. River introduces herself, telling them that they’re on Skaro, one of the most dangerous places in the universe. Brad says he has never heard of Skaro, pondering if they’re in the Gamma Quadrant. Beckett says that it doesn’t sound like a Dominion thing, and that she thinks they're in another universe. River calls them cuties, saying it's interesting that they're taking an interdimensional jump in stride. Brad is shocked to learn that they're in another dimension. River tells him to shush as she's thinking.

Brad asks if they're in the Mirror Universe, saying that he can't handle another doppelgänger of himself. River says that it's not an evil universe, just a bad planet, continuing to call him a cutie, saying she has never seen one like him around. Brad says that he just hopes there are no transporter accidents. Beckett says that as much as it is "whatevs" for them, she would like to go home or her mom will flip out. River says she bets the Doctor is in their place right now and will fix it. Brad asks if "The Doctor" is on the Cerritos, hoping he doesn't miss any opera performances. River tells him they're talking about different people, but that they should not make so much noise as the Daleks will find them. They ask her what a "Dalek" is, just as a Dalek finds them.

The Dalek shouts exterminate. River tells them that it is the most dangerous killing machine in the universe. The Daleks prepares to exterminate them. Brad is not impressed, asking if she didn't say they were on a dangerous planet. River tells him that Daleks are no joking matter. Beckett says it looks adorable, taking note of the little plunger, saying she though it was going to be… but is interrupted as the Dalek fires at them but hits the wall. She then asks if the little tank just atomised the wall behind them. River tells them to take cover or it will happen to them too. Brad asks himself if he should go for stun or kill on his weapon. River tells him to put it away as it won't work on the Daleks and that they need to find out what’s going on as they run.

River says that she thinks they lost it, but that's for the better, saying she didn't bring anything of enough caliber to hurt it. Brad is confused, repeating the things he just saw. Beckett slaps him, telling him that she don't want to have to slap him again and that he needs to relax. River tells her that she wasn't expecting that but that it seem to have worked. She tells them that if the Doctor was exchanged with them it might be because something happened. Beckett tells her that they were dealing with the sadistic games of a hologram AI before they arrived. River says that this is a first for her, which rarely happens. She tells them that she came to Skaro because she sensed something was off with the Time Vortex. Beckett asks if she heard right that River's friend is a time traveller, saying there will be a lot of paperwork about this.

River says that the Daleks seem to be channeling a lot of power towards a particular building. Beckett jokes that they probably aren't using it to power a margarita machine. River says that's probably not it, saying that maybe they attempted to create a time rift but accidentally opened a dimensional one instead. Brad says that it sounds bad and that they can't be stranded here, as Tendi and Rutherford will be helpless. River tells him to shush and not to fret, as she can get them both back to their world and hopefully get the Doctor back. Beckett note that she cares a lot about this Doctor guy, asking if he is an ex or something. River says it's a bit more complicated but that she has no time to explain because they need to stop the Daleks before they do something stupid. Beckett asks what kind of stupid they're talking about; drunk holo-message or end of the universe stupid. River tells them that it's like shooting Artron energy at the rift, so it would be the end of the universe. At the Vortex Manipulator factory, a Dalek reports that the Artron Beam Emitter is fully operational, ordering for it to shoot.

A Dalek orders for the increasing of Artron bombardment. A second Dalek reports that it has been increased, shouting that they will conquer time. River, Brad and Beckett arrives, River noting that it is worse than she thought, saying that the Daleks don't realise that it is a dimensional gate. Beckett asks what Artron energy is and how it can affect their world. River tells her that it is pure temporal energy and might cause some weird temporal effects. Brad says he hopes it doesn't include lens flares. Beckett asks how they will stop the Daleks, remembering River said they don't have the firepower. River says that she doesn't but has a friend who can, asking them to set their guns to the lowest setting. Beckett asks what to shoot, to which River relplies her sonic trowel, because she needs to send out a call to an old friend.

K9 arrives. Brad says that he hates this plane, shouting for the Daleks to look at him. A Dalek says that it detects a human but that threat level is null, so they must ignore. Another Dalek detects a signature from the rift from an unidentified silicate object. Beckett asks if that’s a bottle coming through, hoping that it is Tendi embracing her inner Orion. River tells K9 to do his thing. K9 obeys and shoots. Beckett notes that there's a message in the bottle, telling River to let her reply, writing "We're having a great time!". Brad objects, asking her if she's crazy, and to tell them to come get them. She tells him that she did and that they told her that Badgey connected the dimensions.

They watch as Badgey gets transported across the universes. Badgey asks Beckett if they're having fun and befriending another sexy archaeologist. River asks what in the name of sanity that thing is. Beckett is just about to asks if she heard right about River, but puts herself back on track, saying that it is Badgey, the sociopathic hologram wanting them dead. Brad tells Badgey that he isn't going to kill them and that Beckett was the one who said she was having fun. Badgey says he doesn't care and that they were supposed to struggle and suffer. Brad says they were, as they were chased by amoured pepperpots and that the robot dog saved them. K9 confirms, saying he is a good boy. Badgey says that that is enough, and that they're all coming back with him. River complains that he could at least give her a formal invitation before….

The Doctor, K9 and River return in the TARDIS to Skaro. K9 notes that they arrived. The Doctor says it's brilliant, and that he can't believe all this happened because of a crazy hologram. River says that the Daleks also had a hand in the matter, or a tentacle. The Doctor says he is going to miss the ship, saying the halls were fit for running. River says that she is going to miss Brad and Beckett, saying that Brad was squeamish but that Beckett was fun. The Doctor asks if she plans to write this down in her diary, but River tells him that she'll skip writing about travelling through the Void as it was haunting because of his driving. K9 agrees.

The Doctor tells River that he thinks this is goodbye for now. River assures him that they will meet again and again, so he shouldn't worry. The Doctor says he hopes so, noticing that she carries something. River tells him that Beckett forgot her phaser. The Doctor asks what she is planning with it, and she tells him that she is going to sell it to pay for her next expedition as archaeology is expensive. The Doctor tells her that their organisation wasn't bad, just a bit stuffy, and that maybe he should convince the Shadow Proclamation to do something like it. River tells him that he might be able to take a holiday for real if that happens. He tells her that he doesn’t think that will ever happen, telling her goodbye and to not be a stranger. - The Doctor horrified tells K9 that he thinks he made a mistake. K9 asks what’s wrong. He tells K9 that he thinks he left his glasses back at the Cerritos. K9 confirms that he did. The Doctor says that he hopes nobody finds out as it may cause issues in the future, then says they will have to wait and see.
