Marineville Waits! (short story)
Marineville Waits! was a short story printed in TV Century 21 that contained elements from the Doctor Who universe. Framed as the front page of an in-universe periodical, the titular article made reference to the Stingray content in the issue while a smaller piece tied-in to the Lady Penelope crossover comic Mr. Steelman.
Summary[[edit] | [edit source]]
Strike Aircraft continue to bombard the surface installations of Marineville with repeated rocket attacks. Still safe within the base's underground complex, TV Century 21's special correspondent uses the opportunity to secure an exclusive interview with WASP chief Commander Shore. He tells the correspondent "there can be no doubt" that the pilots at the controls of the aircraft are their own men. However, he claims "I have no choice but to retaliate" despite their status as what he terms "involuntary adversaries". Shore goes on to explain that he will hold off on the defence for another two hours in case Stingray can resolve the situation, though he admits this is unlikely given their continued radio silence, after which "calculated destruction of the aircraft will commence".
Meanwhile, with only the few video-scan pictures which have been received by the Marineville Control Tower at their disposal, WASP officials at Marineville Tracking Station Z11 work frantically to determine the position of Titan's undersea cavern, where Stingray is known to be trapped.
Finally, a "usually reliable source" in the Secret Undercover Screening Department of Chief Agent 21 delivers a report which indicates that Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward is continuing her pursuit of Mr Steelman.
