TV Century 21 cover stories were short stories printed on the front page of the magazine TV Century 21, later known as TV21 and TV21 and Tornado.
Each issue of TV21 was framed as a news magazine published exactly one hundred years in the future, with most of its series and features taking place in a single universe and shared continuity in the 2060s. These stories interacted with each other to varying degrees, but were most often brought together by the cover stories.
As part of its "magazine from the future" conceit, TV21 did not possess a conventional magazine cover in its beginning, with the space instead being filled by prose fiction in the format and style of front page newspaper articles. For a brief period, from TV21 150 to TV21 153, the cover stories spanned a total of two pages each by occupying the backcover as well. These stories often tied-in to events occurring in the ongoing comic serials contained within each issue and, by expounding upon what was seen in those strips or revealing important related details not present in their parent works, the cover stories were essentially extensions of the narratives which they referenced.
TV21 ditched cover stories at the end of 1967, replacing them with the similarly-formatted TV21 Stop Press series which was positioned further into each issue, while the first page of the Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons comic strip was promoted to the cover. Cover stories were later reintroduced for a short time, being utilised somewhat sporadically from February 1969 until the publication's merger with Joe 90 Top Secret in September of that year.
TV Century 21 published The Daleks from 1965 to 1967 and this series was no exception with regards to appearances in cover stories, with reports on Skaro or the Golden Emperor's conquests regularly making the headlines during this time. Additionally, some cover stories also featured Astra, originally created by David Whitaker for the First Doctor television story The Rescue, or other Doctor Who universe elements such as Unity City.
The following cover stories involved DWU elements and are thus covered on this Wiki:
