Adobe Flash is a now-deprecated technology for Web-based animations and interactivity. The software used for animation in particular is termed Flash animation. Adobe Flash is most important to the Doctor Who universe in its use by the BBCi team to create original animated Doctor Who serials, including Scream of the Shalka, which introduced a new Ninth Doctor.

Other productions made by BBCi using Flash were WC: Real Time, featuring the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn Smythe, and WC: Shada, an adaptation of the unfinished Fourth Doctor serial, now featuring the Eighth Doctor and Romana II.

On the BBC Doctor Who website and many other tie-in websites, Flash was also used for fucntions on the sites and a large variety of games, including, but not limited to, The Last Dalek and Amy's History Hunt. With the introduction of HTML5, Flash began to be phased out from website usage. It was officially discontinued at the end of 2020, everywhere except the Chinese market. As a result, these games are no longer in playable format unless if an alternative is used.
