Naomi Cross

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Naomi Cross was a companion of the Fourth and Seventh Doctors.

Unsatisified by her work with UNIT, Naomi joined the Fourth Doctor in the TARDIS, as did Harry Sullivan, and eventually chose to return to Earth to utilise the confidence and skills that her travels had given her. However, the Doctor accidentally left them both in 2012 rather than their home time and they joined UNIT under Kate Stewart before joining the Seventh Doctor.

Because of her parents' financial situation, Naomi only met Samuel Clemetson, whom she believed to be her grandfather, once, at the age of ten; he told her that he lost one of his little fingers in the war and that it was self-indulgent to cry. She was close to Dacres, whom she considered family despite her being unaware of their relation. (AUDIO: The Face in the Storm [+]Loading...["The Face in the Storm (audio story)"])

Joining UNIT[[edit] | [edit source]]

Inspired by Sam's work for a British military group that investigated aliens (AUDIO: The Face in the Storm [+]Loading...["The Face in the Storm (audio story)"]) and wanting to accomplish more than her parents, Naomi joined UNIT, which she felt was where she needed to be. (AUDIO: Worlds Beyond [+]Loading...["Worlds Beyond (audio story)"]) Although she was top of her class, she was kept behind a desk rather than being sent out on missions (AUDIO: Storm of the Sea Devils [+]Loading...["Storm of the Sea Devils (audio story)"]) and was soon frustrated with the workplace sexism and constant paperwork. (AUDIO: Worlds Beyond [+]Loading...["Worlds Beyond (audio story)"])

Naomi had a cousin who died two years before she began travelling with the Fourth Doctor. (AUDIO: Scream of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Scream of the Daleks (audio story)"]) When she had the opportunity to work in India, she took it in the hopes of having more adventure and worked under Captain Mohit Sharma in Calcutta. Naomi and a Sea Devil. (AUDIO: Storm of the Sea Devils [+]Loading...["Storm of the Sea Devils (audio anthology)"])

Naomi met Harry Sullivan at the airport after he arrived in Calcutta for a holiday and took him to Captain Sharma to enlist his help in investigating Ramesh Kamal. Pretending to be a nurse, she went with Harry and met the Fourth Doctor, who inadvertently gave them away and was locked in a swimming pool with her and Shorak as a result. Naomi was later captured by Taurix and gave the Doctor a speech which inspired Shorak to stop Taurix's war against humanity, after which Naomi and Harry joined the Doctor in the TARDIS. (AUDIO: Storm of the Sea Devils [+]Loading...["Storm of the Sea Devils (audio story)"])

Naomi was unimpressed with the size of the TARDIS, so the Doctor took her and Harry to Erinee to show she how entertaining travel in the TARDIS could be. Given a bespoke holiday on a beach, Naomi enjoyed scuba diving and other activities before Abby tied her to a stake as the tide came in, a predicament which the Doctor saved her from. The three travellers freed the low caste cicerones from being used by the greater caste to create avatars and left as the planet died, after which Naomi and Harry theorised that the entire adventure had been a generated holiday which had given Naomi the opportunity to show herself how capable she was. (AUDIO: Worlds Beyond [+]Loading...["Worlds Beyond (audio story)"])

The Toymaker summoned the TARDIS to 20th century England and Naomi, the Doctor and Harry joined Madame Bisset in visiting Charles Pearson's manor to find his missing daughter, Etta. Madame Bisset was soon taken over by the Toymaker and made the three travellers play games, briefly possessing Naomi when she touched a ouija board. She and Harry followed the Doctor's instructions to throw the Toymaker's Probability Crystal into the TARDIS console to create a loop which helped the Doctor trap him. They then departed for Las Vegas. (AUDIO: Matryoshka [+]Loading...["Matryoshka (audio story)"])

After the Doctor saved Tom Peck from a radioactive tiger in 1870 London and took the tiger back to Naomi and Harry in the TARDIS, the three travellers began to investigate and visited Charles Jamrach's menagerie from which the tiger had inexplicably escaped. Naomi was stunned by Top the Wombat and later joined the Doctor and Dante Gabriel Rossetti in stopping him from killing Harry and Jamrach and destroying London on account of the Wombat Queen being missing. She saved the captive pair from a bomb and succeeded in asking the Wombat Queen, once she was located and awoken, to show Top mercy despite his actions. (AUDIO: The Caged Assassin [+]Loading...["The Caged Assassin (audio story)"])

On Jaxus, Naomi, the Doctor and Harry agreed to help Cahlo locate Padro, the latest of the planet's inhabitants to be taken by the Master's transfield traps. Naomi fell victim to once such trap and was to be used to help make more of the Master's metempsychosis compound for his rejuvenation, but she escaped and was reunited with the Doctor. The pair found Harry, whom the Master had hypnotised, and Naomi shot the pipes carrying the metempsychosis compound to prevent the Master from restoring himself completely, after which the Doctor used a transfield trap to send him to Gallifrey. Naomi and a Yukionna. (AUDIO: Dominant Species [+]Loading...["Dominant Species (audio anthology)"])

The TARDIS took Naomi, the Doctor and Harry to SS Maycrest where they were locked up by Edward Sackville-Smythe on suspicion of being German spies. In the brig, they met Samuel Clemetson, who was later frozen by the escaped Yukionna that Sackville-Smythe had been transporting, and Naomi eventually learnt that Arnold Dacres was her biological grandfather and not Sam. She assured Arnold, who was unaware of her identity, that she would have been happy to be related to him and left after the Yukionna killed each other, although she had hoped to stay longer with Arnold and Sam. Visiting Taleeria for a holiday, Naomi and Harry were separated from the Doctor when he was taken captive by the Quarks and became part of Bryarly's resistance group against the Dominators. They survived Draaga's destruction of the planet and were reunited with the Doctor on Zorana a month later in a rescue attempts which inadvertently stopped the Doctor from taking over the Quarks. Following Valtor's death, Naomi, the Doctor and Harry helped Morin and her people during the war between Draaga and Corg, after which Naomi agreed with Harry that it was time for them to return home as she wanted to put what she had learnt into practice. Shortly after saying goodbye to the Doctor, however, they realised they were in August 2012. (AUDIO: Dominant Species [+]Loading...["Dominant Species (audio story)"])

The Vulpreen invasion[[edit] | [edit source]]

Naomi and Harry joined UNIT under Kate Stewart and went to assist UNIT Australia. They became aware that Ros Green was in possession of an Ice Warrior, Abiathar, and, whilst investigating, were chased by Jakernia. They eventually regrouped with Kate and Petronella Osgood and helped release Abiathar into space to explode without causing any harm to Earth, after which they returned to the United Kingdom. She and Osgood observed Portstone New Town with an omniscope and glided in with Junaid Mirza, discovering that it was actually a construction site making use of slaves. Naomi and Junaid evacuated the slaves after Prast set the nuclear reactor to go into meltdown. (AUDIO: Power of the Dominators [+]Loading...["Power of the Dominators (audio story)"])

After the destruction of the Starseeker, Kate asked that Naomi collect her from the UNIT safe house in Tromsø. (AUDIO: The Vulpreen Encounter [+]Loading...["The Vulpreen Encounter (audio story)"])

She headed to Alberta with Osgood, meeting Yang Li there, and was caught in a temporal snare until Osgood was able to free her with a chrono-gauge. Afterwards, Axons emerged through a Vulpreen Arch. (AUDIO: By Jacqui McGee [+]Loading...["By Jacqui McGee (audio story)"])

Given that Axos had previously been defeated by the Third Doctor, Naomi went to Lake Claire to employ the Eleven's help. She put him in Faraday cuffs and took him through an arch to Axos where he proved a crucial part of Kate's plan to escape. (AUDIO: Axos Unleashed [+]Loading...["Axos Unleashed (audio story)"])

Kate sent Naomi to meet with Harry at Wimbledon Common to observe a Vulpreen Arch. She reported back to Kate when the arch's time field began to expand and freeze everything inside of it. (AUDIO: Time of the Vulpreen [+]Loading...["Time of the Vulpreen (audio story)"])

Naomi infiltrated a Vulpreen base with Harry, Kate and Bert Hockley to plant a bomb to destroy the Super Arches. She and Harry met up with Osgood and freed the Vulpreen's prisoners, including Jimmy and Josh Carter, before saving Kate from frozen time Varliss had used to contain her. Osgood then froze the two of them to protect them from the bomb's blast. (AUDIO: One Way or Another [+]Loading...["One Way or Another (audio story)"])

Naomi joined Harry in investigating the Álfar at Clerkenwell tube station and called the police when she saw Keryth chasing the foreman. They were reunited with the Doctor, now in his seventh incarnation, and were arrested for wasting police time when Keryth did not show up on the CCTV. Sarya released them and took them to Agrandir, who asked them not to interfere in the conflict between the Ljósálfar and the Dökkálfar. After the conflict was resolved, Naomi and Harry joined the Doctor in the TARDIS to return home. (AUDIO: London Orbital [+]Loading...["London Orbital (audio story)"])

The Doctor decided to take Naomi and Harry to Aquilina, but the TARDIS picked up the sound of screams in 1969 Chester. Naomi and the Doctor travelled throughout time to find the cause of the disappearances and unexplained deaths which occurred in the area on Halloween and learnt that it involved the Daleks. They had to return to 1969 through a crack in time due to the Daleks' temporal distortion and, after reuniting with Harry, the Daleks were defeated. (AUDIO: Scream of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Scream of the Daleks (audio story)"])

By the time Winston Churchill called in the Doctor to investigate the death of Harriet Thompson, Naomi was unsure about whether she wanted to return to the 20th or 21st century. She, the Doctor and Harry helped Sebastian Hardcastle look into Marion Hardcastle and Georgina Stevens only to learn that he was a member of the Forge who had used an Oblivion Key to control the Vashta Nerada and murder Thompson to keep his allegiance to the Nazis a secret. Naomi planned to speak with Harry about which century they wanted to be returned to after they found a new home for Georgina following the destruction of Gorthia. (AUDIO: Operation Dusk [+]Loading...["Operation Dusk (audio story)"])

Upon receiving a distress call from the Ruby Quadrant Space Station, the Doctor piloted the TARDIS there and Naomi was put into an escape pod by the station's robots for her own safety ahead of an imminent supernova. She was picked up by the Immaturi of Starboat IV, saved them from being wiped out by the people of Opis's moon by having Captain Rocky jettison the ships weapons and helped acquire new generators for the ship's life support. The Doctor eventually found her and reunited the Nanmatura with the Immaturi, after which Queen Maylee awarded Naomi the Nanmatura Medal of Valour, which was to be renamed the Naomi Cross in her honour.
