Spectraquiz (feature)
Spectraquiz was a Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons feature printed in TV Century 21, consisting of twenty questions based on the comic strips printed in TV21 as well as real world-focused knowledge. One question referenced Unity City, a location which had been introduced in The Daleks story Duel of the Daleks.
It was given in-universe framing, with the questions being devised by Colonel White as a "special priority Shade promotion test" intended to test the efficency of all Shades. Questions were scored in accordance with their difficulty. A score between 135 and 160 meant the answerer was an excellent Shade and could award themselves the special Shade bar as a promotion, a score between 100 and 135 meant they were a good Shade but needed more practice before reaching the promotion stage, and a score below 100 indicated that they needed to brush up on efficiency.
Aside from Captain Scarlet, Spectraquiz crossed over with elements from other TV21 series such as Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds and Zero X. The character of James Bond was also referenced, albeit in a manner which kept his fictionality ambiguous.

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Spectraquiz refers to Prince Charles, the incumbent Prince of Wales at the time of its release in 1968. This is at odds with the feature's futuristic setting as he and his mother Elizabeth II would have had to lived to ages of 120 and 140 respectively for this to be true in 2068. In-universe, this minor continuity error could be rationalised if the Charles mentioned here not is not the son of Elizabeth II but a descendant who was named after him.
- The answer to the question about the MEV states that its middle initial stands for Excursion. This was true from the craft's introduction in the Thunderbirds film Thunderbirds Are Go but in its only other onscreen appearance, the first episode of Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, the MEV's name was slightly altered to the Martian Exploration Vehicle.
