In a parallel universe, the USS Enterprise, registry number NCC-1701, was a Constitution-class Starfleet vessel used for exploration by the United Federation of Planets during the 23rd century. It was the "original" vessel named Enterprise, a lineage that would be followed by the Enterprise-D in the 24th century.

The Enterprise held a complement of shuttles which included the Galileo (NCC-1701/7).

The USS Enterprise was commanded by Captain James T. Kirk. His first officer was Mr Spock while Leonard McCoy and Montgomery Scott served as ship's surgeon and chief engineer respectively.

On stardate 3368.5, the Enterprise was sent to investigate the communications blackout of Aprilia III, helping the Fourth Doctor defeat a group of CyberNomads. The Enterprise crew subsequently logged this mission in its archives, a record that survived into the 24th century for the Enterprise-D to consult. Following the defeat of the Cybermen of the cyber-web, the Eleventh Doctor suspected that his earlier encounter with the original Enterprise had been removed from the timelines.
