[[Madame Vastra]], [[Jenny Flint]] and [[Strax]] are at the end of a case involving identical twins, undetectable poison and an Egyptian curse. As Strax leads the culprit away for obliteration, a detective from Scotland Yard requests that he be held for questioning instead. Jenny apologises for Strax as "he's new". The officer thinks Strax is Turkish, but Vastra explains his alien origins to the officer's astonishment. The officer also inquires of Vastra's "skin condition" and she explains her [[Silurian]] heritage and her initial disgust at "ape" (human) society after being awoken - but changed her thoughts when she fell in love. Thinking she means with "the Turkish fellow" (Strax), the officer is astounded to learn her partner is Jenny.

Vastra explains the [[Sontaran]]'s origins, and hers as well when he asks if the skin condition hurts, mistakenly believing her to be human. She perplexes him further by saying she fell in love with her assistant [[Jenny Flint]]. Departing in a carriage, both are saddened that the Doctor appears unwilling to leave his TARDIS. However, they then both notice something very odd: it is snowing, yet there are no clouds in the sky...

On the carriage ride home, during a discussion about the Doctor's retirement, Jenny notices it is beginning to snow. Vastra voices that the snow is impossible due to the fact that there are no clouds in the sky.
