1 May was celebrated as May Day in the United Kingdom and several other countries on the planet Earth.
Amongst the notable things that occurred on this day were:
- 1643 - The May Day celebration in Little Hodcombe turned especially bloody as the village's Queen of the May was burned at the stake, an event instigated by the Malus and recounted by Will Chandler to the Fifth Doctor in 1984. (TV: The Awakening)
- 1699 - Captain Henry Avery noted in the Fancy log that his ship had been stilled on a windless ocean for eight days. (WC: Prequel: The Curse of the Black Spot)
- 1707 - The Act of Union formally united Scotland and England as the United Kingdom of Great Britain.[source needed] This was one of the events leading towards the Highlander Uprising in which Jamie McCrimmon participated. (TV: The Highlanders)
- 1957 - The first Sputnik satellite was launched by the Soviet Union, but was destroyed before it completed its first orbit. Neither the launch nor the satellite's destruction was ever made public. (PROSE: First Frontier)
- Circa 1970s - The Master was finally captured by UNIT, but only temporarily. Later, after having defeated the Master, he celebrated May Day. (TV: The Dæmons)
- 1984 - The Malus was re-awakened. (TV: The Awakening)
