Black

Black was a colour.

Davros wore a black leather tunic. Davros, creator of the Daleks, had a chair which acts as his life support; similar to a Dalek's base but black with silver sense globes. Black Daleks were identified by their black casings with silver globes and panels. (TV: Planet of the Daleks; AUDIO: The Genocide Machine) The Emperor's Personal Guard had black domes. (PROSE: Prisoner of the Daleks) The Defence Drone Daleks were black and silver. (TV: Revolution of the Daleks) The Eternal Dalek was yellow with black globes, (TV: Victory of the Daleks, The Pandorica Opens) as do Gold Daleks. Cyber Leaders were identified by their black side handles; such as CyberNeomorphs, (TV: Earthshock - Attack of the Cybermen), CyberIsomorphs, (TV: Silver Nemesis) and Cybus Cybermen. (TV: Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, The Pandorica Opens) The Cyberleaders of CyberNomads had black Cyber-Helmets with silver faceplates. (TV: Revenge of the Cybermen) Cyberguards were black as camouflage. (TV: Attack of the Cybermen) Cyber-Lords had black faceplates and side handles. (TV: The Next Doctor, A Good Man Goes to War; GAME: Blood of the Cybermen)

The Sontarans wore black space armour with silver helmets and pauldrons. The Ninth Doctor normally wore all black articles of clothing including a double-breasted leather peacoat, save for a long sleeve jumper of a different colour, (TV: Rose et al.) though by the end of his life even the jumper he wore was black. (TV: Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways)

While investigating strange technology in Washington, DC during the 1980s, the Sixth Doctor donned a black suit on Peri Brown's insistence. (PROSE: Blue Box) He also wore a black bow tie. (AUDIO: The Wreck of the Titan)

The Seventh Doctor replaced the Sixth Doctor's rainbow umbrella which he was forced to leave when the First Rani's base on Lakertya was destroyed. (TV: Time and the Rani) with a black umbrella which had a whangee handle. (TV: Paradise Towers) After the first black umbrella was damaged, (AUDIO: The Warehouse) he acquired a new umbrella with an elaborate handle in the shape of a large cherry question mark. (TV: Delta and the Bannermen) Whilst in Nazi Germany, he briefly donned a black leather trenchcoat and a black soft hat. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus) He also wore a black cravat with his dark jacket. The Eighth Doctor wore black ankle boots after his regeneration. (TV: Doctor Who). Occasionally he wore a black top hat. (COMIC: The Curious Tale of Spring-Heeled Jack; AUDIO: Other Lives) He also owned a black velvet coat (PROSE: Vanishing Point) that he won in a bet with a member of Faction Paradox. (PROSE: The Book of the War) He also wore a a black waistcoat embroidered with orange designs. (PROSE: The Year of Intelligent Tigers)

The War Doctor wore a double-breasted trenchcoat of black leather when he used a molecular fruit bomb to transform the factories of Villengard into a banana grove to prevent it from supplying weapons to Daleks. (COMIC: The Whole Thing's Bananas).

The Tenth Doctor sometimes wore a black tuxedo and bow tie; though he sometimes sees it as a sign things would go wrong. (TV: Rise of the Cybermen|The Age of Steel, The Lazarus Experiment, Voyage of the Damned)

The Eleventh Doctor once wore a black moleskin overcoat. In an alternate timeline in which the First Doctor spent three months on Urbinia, his friend, Professor Feedlam discovered a new colour which was "a little bit green and a little bit black", creating "a sort of mauve". (AUDIO: Daughter of the Gods)

The Host of the Lupine Wavelength Haemovariform had all-black eyes. (TV: Tooth and Claw) Grace Holloway's eyes turned all-black when she was controlled by the Bruce Master. (TV: Doctor Who) Mercy Hartigan's eyes turned all-black when she was converted into the CyberKing. (TV: The Next Doctor) Owen Harper's eyes turned all-black when he was possessed by Death. (TV: Dead Man Walking)

Nostrovites had black blood, (TV: Something Borrowed) as did the Process. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible)

Black roses grew on Florana. (AUDIO: The Elite)

Behind the scenes

• James Johnson rendered a Time War-era Dalek Commander model which was featured on the cover of Gallifrey: War Room 1: Allegiance, sporting a black and silver livery reminiscent of the earlier Battle Computer unit seen in the Shoreditch Incident. Ahead of release, Johnson released a closer look at his designs, also clarifying that the accompanying text wasn't in any way official, and that he added it "just for fun".
