- The story name alludes to the title of Whitbread Award-winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which is itself a quote from Arthur Conan Doyle.
- The protagonist of the book is on the autistic spectrum. Fittingly, Olivia Jennings expresses her suspicion that the Sixth Doctor may be autistic in the story.
