Anthony Williams

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Anthony Brian Williams was the adopted son of Amy and Rory Williams. He had a grown-up sister, Melody, a brother-in-law, the Doctor, and he lived with his parents in New York City.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

After being trapped in a cemetery in New York City in 1938 by a Weeping Angel, (TV: The Angels Take Manhattan [+]Loading...["The Angels Take Manhattan (TV story)"]) Amy and Rory Williams adopted a child, eight years later, in 1946, (WC: P.S. [+]Loading...["P.S. (webcast)"], Rory's Story [+]Loading...["Rory's Story (webcast)"]) as Amy could no longer conceive a child after being taken to Demons Run. (TV: A Good Man Goes to War [+]Loading...["A Good Man Goes to War (TV story)"], Asylum of the Daleks [+]Loading...["Asylum of the Daleks (TV story)"]) A week before Anthony was to be brought to his parents' home, Rory recorded a video for Anthony on the then-"only working smart phone in the world", as a dictation for a new chapter of a book for Anthony about his parents' lives. His video was cut off though when Amy called for Rory's assistance in painting Anthony's bedroom. (WC: Rory's Story [+]Loading...["Rory's Story (webcast)"]) Anthony grew up in New York. At some point early in his life, Anthony was photographed with Amy and Rory. (WC: P.S. [+]Loading...["P.S. (webcast)"]) Anthony was also mentioned in an "about the authors" section of Amy's childrens' book Summer Falls. (PROSE: About the Authors [+]Loading...["About the Authors (feature)"])

In 2012, (TV: The Angels Take Manhattan [+]Loading...["The Angels Take Manhattan (TV story)"]) now in his mid-sixties, Anthony travelled to Amy and Rory's house (WC: P.S. [+]Loading...["P.S. (webcast)"]) in London (TV: The God Complex [+]Loading...["The God Complex (TV story)"]) to deliver a letter from Rory to Brian Williams, Rory's father, to explain his and his daughter-in-law's sudden absence due to being trapped in the past. Rory's letter elucidated to Brian that Anthony was his grandson, despite now being older than him, which Rory knew to be "so far beyond weird"; Brian entered the hallway where Anthony was standing, where he extended a handshake to Brian, but he embraced Anthony instead. (WC: P.S. [+]Loading...["P.S. (webcast)"])

At one point, Rani Chandra interviewed Anthony, and he told her about how both of his parents had been separately transported back in time by the Weeping Angels but ended up in the same point in time and space. Rani eventually told Larry Nightingale, who recounted what Anthony had said when he travelled back to Wester Drumlins on 28 February 2021 to try to find a way to get back to Natasha Nightingale after she had been transported herself to the 1920s. Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

Anthony Williams first appeared in P.S., an unfinished mini-episode written by Chris Chibnall that explained how Brian Williams learned the fate of his son Rory and daughter-in-law Amy. Originally meant as a filmed DVD extra, the scene was cancelled due to actor Mark Williams being unavailable[1] and shared in 2012 as an animated short online with linking narration by Arthur Darvill. Anthony being Amy and Rory's adopted child aligns with the revelation in Asylum of the Daleks that Amy was no longer able to bear children of her own after the events of A Good Man Goes to War.

Despite P.S. being unfinished, the story still seems to be part of continuity, at least as far as writers of Doctor Who fiction are concerned, as the mini-episode was explicitly referenced in About the Authors, a faux-bio of the authors of Summer Falls and Other Stories, and it even received a direct sequel in 2020, a mini-episode titled Rory's Story as part of the Doctor Who: Lockdown! event.
