Anomaly, stylised as AИOMALY, is a currently unproduced spin-off film which was first announced in 2019.[1] Although not officially cancelled, the film missed its intended release date of 2021 and little information is available about the state of the project.

Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]

Gordon “Gordy” Lethbridge-Stewart thought he had left the world of his grandfather behind him. As a research scientist, all he was interested in was developing new technologies.

Unfortunately, what he doesn’t know is that retired UNIT operative Captain Douglas Cavendish has given him alien technology to develop his ideas with... and that leads to a great deal of trouble indeed! Trouble that forces Kate Lethbridge-Stewart to make a life or death choice!

In this fast paced sequel to both DAEMOS RISING and the DOCTOR WHO story THE TIME MONSTER, it’s difficult to tell if reality is ... well ...real! Time itself it being manipulated and it’s already run out more than once!

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

The film was intended as a sequel to the 1995 film Downtime and the 2004 film Dæmos Rising, featuring the return of Beverley Cressman as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Miles Richardson as Douglas Cavendish.

The film would have established the Kate Lethbridge-Stewart seen in Reeltime Pictures' Downtime and the Kate Stewart seen in BBC's The Power of Three onwards as distinct from each other,[2] although Keith Barnfather also indicated that the film would be set "before Kate joins UNIT in Doctor Who".[3] Alongside this, the film would featured elements from the 1972 Doctor Who television story The Time Monster.

Production on the film was put on halt when the decision was made to focus on Sil and the Devil Seeds of Arodor instead. Concept art of the film indicated that Sophie Aldred was meant to appear in the story.[3] Ironically, Aldred would instead appear in the 2022 Doctor Who television story The Power of the Doctor, which featured the BBC incarnation of Kate.

As of February 2023, Barnfather still believed the film was "soon to be made."[4]

Contradictions with Doctor Who[[edit] | [edit source]]

Despite Anomaly's effort to make the BBC and Downtime Kate Stewarts separate characters, BBC-produced stories have provided evidence they are indeed the same character:
