Nothing at the End of the Lane was an unproduced Doctor Who episode by C. E. Webber. It featured early concepts for characters that became Susan Foreman, Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton and the Doctor.
In May or March 1963, Webber proposed it as the first episode of Dr. Who. This episode would feature Biddy, Lola McGovern, and Cliff discovering Dr. Who and his invisible machine. The first story would be four episodes long and would not feature time travel. Webber further wrote that it may involve a "micro-reducer" in Dr. Who's machine that would shrink all the main characters. (REF: "Dr. Who" General Notes on Background and Approach)
This concept would be expanded upon as The Giants. (REF: "Dr. Who" General Notes on Background and Approach for an Exciting Adventure - Science Fiction Drama Series for Childrens Saturday Viewing)
