Doctor Who the Animated Series was the alleged title for a purported pitch made to the BBC for a Doctor Who animated series. The pitch was done sometime between 2010 and early 2013, and featured concept material by DC comics artist Dan Norton.[1]
The series would have cycled through each of the eleven Doctors, starting with the First Doctor. The idea was to use the series to fill in gaps left in the series. One piece of concept art showed the First Doctor with two child companions, a boy from the 1920s and a girl from modern day.
The BBC requested revisions, then ultimately passed on the concept, stating that they preferred to focus on the live-action series.[2] Norton revealed much of his concept art some time after the pitch was rejected, though did not reveal what company was attempting to sell the series to the BBC.
The title is very similar to three other proposed animated series; Doctor Who: The Animated Series, Doctor Who - The Animated Series and The 'New' Doctor Who – An Animated Series.
