- Panda watches the movies Stagecoach, The Furies and Brokeback Mountain.
- The few cowboys Iris and Panda see look more like Shaun Ryder than John Wayne or Jake Gyllenhal.
- Iris plays Patsy Cline on her radio to get them in the mood for Texas.
- Iris takes Panda to 2010 in an alternate timeline in which they don't rescue Junior.
- A jukebox plays John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy."
- Tractor beams make Iris nauseous.
- The Makemono look like if Picasso and Giger had designed a Pokémon together. Iris describes them as an offshoot of the Pastafarians.
