Deadline was an unproduced Torchwood television story written by Phil Ford. The story was intended as an episode in series 2, before being replaced by Something Borrowed [+]Loading...["Something Borrowed (TV story)"], another story pitched by Ford. The episode would have followed a Torchwood investigation into a wave of suicides in Cardiff. The episode was put on hold as Ford was asked to take over writing the series 2 finale of the Sarah Jane Adventures, Enemy of the Bane [+]Loading...["Enemy of the Bane (TV story)"]. Over time, the Torchwood story arc had been revised to a point that Deadline no longer fit, particularly with the change of Owen Harper's death, and was scrapped as a result. The story was later adapted into an audio, with several significant changes from the original plot. It was featured on "The Lost Episodes" article of TM 24.[1]

Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • This unproduced episode would have focused on Owen. However, due to changes in the overall story arc of the series, the episode was scrapped. Its audio adaption takes place after the events of series two, and does not feature Owen.[1]
  • The story focuses on telephones causing victims to commit suicide. In the audio adaption, this was changed to making them fall into a coma.[1]
  • In the story, Gwen would have been influenced by her phone to attempt suicide by taking an overdose. The audio adaption instead has Jack fall victim to the network and fall into a coma.[1]
