The Tearing of the Veil was an unproduced script written by Alan Drury for Season 17. The scripts were commissioned on 2 April 1979, but were later cancelled due to sharing too many similarities with other scripts in the same season.

The basic plot involved the Doctor interrupting a wedding and being accused of murdering the groom. He would eventually team up with the groom's best man and discover that the killer was a deadly intergalactic criminal who had killed the bride and disguised himself as her.

A second draft was accepted on 19 September 1979, involving a séance and a gateway to Earth in the 20th century, but Drury eventually stepped down due to prior commitments. Some elements of this second draft were eventually worked into City of Death.[source needed]
