There Are Worse Things Than Angels was an unproduced Doctor Who novel pitched by Lawrence Miles to the BBC Eighth Doctor Adventures in early 1997.[1] It was rejected by editor Nuala Buffini because it was "too graphic" for what was planned to be a family series, and The Eight Doctors was commissioned in its stead.[2]

It would have been set in the 1970s with a British proto-UNIT paranormal investigation team based on Reagan and Carter from The Sweeney.[1] The opening scene was a ritual with a frozen chicken which was "like a necromantic version of the 'Sledgehammer' video". The tone of the story would have resembled Miles' later novel Dead Romance.[3]
