Just as it was possible to perceive alterations to history, it was also possible for physical artefacts to continue to exist.

Nature[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eleventh Doctor once explained to Amy Pond that little, unaccountable traces were left of "people who fell out of the world", such as faces in photographs, luggage and half-eaten meals. (TV: The Pandorica Opens [+]Loading...["The Pandorica Opens (TV story)"]) After the vast majority of the universe was erased from history, the Doctor explained that the stone Daleks were "just like afterimages. Echoes. Fossils in time. The footprints of the never-were." (TV: The Big Bang [+]Loading...["The Big Bang (TV story)"]) Proximity to an "eye of the storm", when time was being overwritten, at least once resulted in one person physically remaining in the same location. (AUDIO: The Shadow Vortex [+]Loading...["The Shadow Vortex (audio story)"])

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

This section is not ordered by standard chronological order but rather an approximate chronological meta-time order.

War era[[edit] | [edit source]]

During the Last Great Time War, an alternative timeline was created when the Daleks invaded East Berlin in 1961. While these events were wholly erased from history by the War Doctor, James Leith was still physically in the same location where he was exterminated due to being close to the "eye of the storm". (AUDIO: The Shadow Vortex [+]Loading...["The Shadow Vortex (audio story)"])

The Malfinions, Hederons and Scarbians were removed from the timelines of the universe during the Time War so that their names merely existed in "the footnotes" of Time Lord records, with no-one bring able to recall their existence. One book, however, did mention their existence. (PROSE: The Whoniverse [+]Loading...{"chaptname":"End of Time","chaptnum":"7","1":"The Whoniverse (novel)"})

Post-War era[[edit] | [edit source]]

A pile of photographs that continued to exist (PROSE: Rose's Dad? [+]Loading...["Rose's Dad? (short story)"]) after the version of history they were taken in was undone. (TV: Father's Day [+]Loading...["Father's Day (TV story)"])

Although the Ninth Doctor assured Rose Tyler that everyone affected by the wound in time caused by her attempt to prevent the death of her father, (TV: Father's Day [+]Loading...["Father's Day (TV story)"]) this, by some accounts, did not happen; in early 2006, while researching the Doctor, Mickey Smith discovered a wedding video (PROSE: Essay Competition [+]Loading...["Essay Competition (short story)"]) and numerous photographs taken during the alternate version of history. Furthermore, Mickey remembered fleeting moments and other people's memories, across the estate, were hazy. (PROSE: Rose's Dad? [+]Loading...["Rose's Dad? (short story)"])

While Amelia Pond's parents — Tabetha and Augustus — were erased from time by the the cracks, (TV: The Pandorica Opens [+]Loading...["The Pandorica Opens (TV story)"], PROSE: "Heroes of Earth" [+]Part of Whotopia: The Ultimate Guide to the Whoniverse, Loading...{"namedpart":"Heroes of Earth","1":"Whotopia: The Ultimate Guide to the Whoniverse (reference book)"}, etc.) she still had an apple with a smiley face freshly sculpted into it by her mum, in 1996. Amy Pond holds the engagement ring which Rory Williams intended to give her, after his erasure from history. (TV: The Lodger [+]Loading...["The Lodger (TV story)"])

After Rory Williams was murdered by Restac and erased from history by a crack in time, the engagement ring he had intended to give to Amy continued to exist. (TV: Cold Blood [+]Loading...["Cold Blood (TV story)"]) Amy later discovered the ring and was reminded of the crack in her bedroom wall. (TV: The Lodger [+]Loading...["The Lodger (TV story)"])

As part of the Alliance's attempt to imprison the Doctor in the Pandorica, the Nestene Consciousness extrapolated Amy's psychic residue from her childhood home — a photograph of Amy and Rory dressed as a Roman centurion and a police officer, respectively, was one of the items in there. This formed that basis for the Nestene duplicate of Rory to be created. (TV: The Pandorica Opens [+]Loading...["The Pandorica Opens (TV story)"])

During the altered version of the universe after everything except for Earth and its Moon was erased, afterimages of Daleks, a Cyberman and a Roman Auton continued to exist as "fossils in time". The Pandorica contained atoms from the original universe, so by using its restoration field when being piloted into the exploding TARDIS, the universe was rebooted. Undated events[[edit] | [edit source]]

Miltontheus by rewriting The Book of the Head Dictionary Contributor of the D&DL Department, his brutalised corpse, which had been physically disfigured by the process, fell to the floor in the Inner Reference Room of the Multiplicity, appearing to continue to exist even after his life did not.
