Tibet

Tibet was home to part of the Himalayas.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

20th century[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Fifth Doctor travelled to Tibet in 1917, where he battled the Great Old Ones who attempted to be unleashed on Earth via his companion Erimem. (AUDIO: The Roof of the World)

The Second Doctor had previously visited Tibet in 1935 with Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield, encountering the Great Intelligence for the first time. He also met a group of monks at the Det-Sen Monastery whom he helped to fight the Yeti of the Himalayas. (TV: The Abominable Snowmen)

Germany sent expeditions to Tibet in search of the occult sources of Nazi beliefs. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus)

Victoria returned there decades later. (PROSE: Downtime)

K'anpo lived in Tibet for a time, learning the customs, the Tibetan language, and religion of that people. The Third Doctor also proved to be familiar with Tibetan customs. (TV: Planet of the Spiders)

21st century[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 2003, Tibet was protected from the spread of Agent Yellow by the huge bulk of the Himalayas, though its western slopes shuddered groundwards in gigantic earthquakes. (PROSE: Eternity Weeps [+]Loading...["Eternity Weeps (novel)"])

The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory Williams visited Tibet while trying to get to Rio de Janeiro. (PROSE: The Glamour Chase)

In the 2000s,[nb 1] the Torchwood Three team was sent on a "wild goose chase" to the Himalayas in Tibet by the Saxon Master to get them out of the way after Jack Harkness had disappeared, having reunited with the Tenth Doctor. (TV: The Sound of Drums) Ianto Jones would later recall those events, and Jack countered that his team had gotten a nice trip to Tibet. (PROSE: The Twilight Streets)

Footnotes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  1. According to the episode The Sound of Drums, Martha Jones' present day during series 3 of Doctor Who takes place over a six-day period, with the Saxon Master being elected three days after Smith and Jones, and the Toclafane invading Earth five days after Smith and Jones. However, sources differ on which dates these stories are set. According to PROSE: The Paradox Moon, the Toclafane invasion happens on 23 June 2007, placing the events of Smith and Jones on 18 June. According to AUDIO: Hysteria, Smith and Jones takes place in 2008, with a UNIT mission log in AUDIO: Recruits referring to the recovery of moon rocks from Royal Hope Hospital in March 2008. A newspaper clipping in PROSE: The Secret Lives of Monsters places Smith and Jones on a Sunday 4 June, thus placing the Toclafane invasion on Friday 9 June. In the real world, these dates do not fall on a Sunday and Friday in either 2007 or 2008.
