An Unearthly Child was a direct-to-audio novelisation based on the 1963 television serial An Unearthly Child. It was distinct from both the TV story and the Target print novelisation.

This audiobook was intended to be released in November 2013 but was shelved after AudioGO entered administration and closed. With the rights reverting back to BBC Worldwide, Random House became the new distributor of Doctor Who audiobooks. However, according to Michael Stevens, a "rights situation" was preventing the release of An Unearthly Child. (DWM 484)
