The Children of Blackmere Rise was an unproduced story written by Rupert Laight. The story was intended as the ninth and tenth episodes of Series 4 of The Sarah Jane Adventures, a slot that was ultimately filled by Laight's Lost in Time [+]Loading...["Lost in Time (TV story)"]. The story would have centred around Rani securing a journalism training course and investigating a "Stepford-like" council estate with Clyde.

The storyline was liked by the production team, however, Laight had missed initial discussions regarding story ideas for series 4 due to travelling abroad. The story went through two drafts before being dropped, and was replaced by Lost in Time after a brief discussion between Laight, Nikki Wilson, Phil Ford and Gary Russell ahead of the series 3 press launch.[1][2]

Notes

  • This story was partially based on the 1972 satirical thriller The Stepford Wives.[2]
  • This was one of several storylines submitted by Laight in advance. As it was well received by Russell T Davies and the production team, it was the only one to receive further development prior to the Lost in Time story idea.[2]
