Nazi

The Nazi Party, short for National Socialist German Workers Party, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (PROSE: Just War) or NSDAP, (AUDIO: The Alchemists) were a political party in Germany. The party subscribed to an ideology known as National Socialism or Nazism, and espoused policies of nationalism, anti-Semitism, (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus) expansionism, (TV: The Empty Child, Victory of the Daleks, PROSE: Illegal Alien, One Wednesday Afternoon) and racial supremacy. (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus, TV: Let's Kill Hitler) They were considered to be fascist. (PROSE: Illegal Alien)

They came to power under Adolf Hitler on 30 January 1933 when Hitler became Chancellor. (AUDIO: Neverland)

World War II broke out on 1 September 1939. (PROSE: Just War; AUDIO: An Eye For Murder)

George Wilson claimed that the Nazis, along with the Allied Forces, were pawns of the Committee. (AUDIO: The Conspiracy)

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Foreshadowing[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 1903, after receiving a wealth of information from the future, Grigori Rasputin foresaw, among other things, Hitler and the Nazis. (AUDIO: The Wanderer)

Pre-war[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Nazis were influenced first by the Timewyrm, who took up residence in Adolf Hitler's mind, and then the War Chief and the War Lords, who detected the Timewyrm's psychic powers within him and hoped to use him to conquer the universe. The Seventh Doctor, by becoming a personal advisor to Hitler, was able to first expose the machinations of the War Lords and later expel the Timewyrm (which left Hitler disorientated enough to allow the Dunkirk evacuation). (PROSE: Timewyrm: Exodus)

The Nazis gained popularity by feeding on the discontent caused by the indignities and troubles suffered by Germany after World War I. The SA, Hitler's private army, effectively replaced Germany's police force, suppressing subversive elements and restoring law and order. After having stood in two elections in five months no one managed to win a majority, relying instead on coalitions. Hitler eventually seized power by the end of January. The First Doctor and Susan Foreman felt that if interwar Germany was more economically stable, the Nazis may not have come to power. (AUDIO: The Alchemists)

In 1936, Nazi sympathisers, including King Edward VIII and Sir Oswald Mosley, attempted a coup to place a Nazi-friendly government in charge of Great Britain, but were foiled by the Sixth Doctor and Peri Brown. (PROSE: Players)

That same year, the Seventh Doctor and Melanie Bush met Nazi scientist Emil Hartung, and accidentally gave him ideas that would lead to the development of a stealth bomber. (PROSE: Just War)

World War II[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 1938, the Nemesis statue influenced Hitler to annex Austria. (TV: Silver Nemesis) This event was later considered by some to be the start of the War, although open hostilities did not begin until the invasion of Poland in 1939.

In 1940, after the British refused to make peace with Germany after the latter had occupied France shortly after the Battle of Dunkirk, (AUDIO: Human Conflict) and with the Nazi land forces unable to conduct a land invasion because of Britain's Royal Navy, the Nazi German Air Force (called the Luftwaffe) began an air campaign against the Royal Air Force, known as the Battle of Britain. Combat primarily occurred over the English Channel between Britain's Spitfires and Hurricanes against Germany's Messerschmitts. (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour) Despite heavy casualties, (AUDIO: Their Finest Hour) the British repelled the Luftwaffe's attack. (PROSE: /Carpenter/Butterfly/Baronet)

Having failed to establish air superiority, the Nazis turned to a terror bombing campaign known as the Blitz. The Doctor and his companions were involved in the Blitz a number of times, although rarely engaging the Nazis any more directly than through their bombs. (TV: The Empty Child, Captain Jack Harkness, Victory of the Daleks) That too eventually failed. (TV: The Doctor Dances, PROSE: Exodus) Furthermore, by 1941, the Nazis had been prevented from successfully invading Britain by the Shakers, who conducted a terrorist war against German forces as part of a secret agreement with a faction of the British government. (PROSE: Losing the Audience)

Despite this, they were able to launch a scaled-back version of Operation Sealion and conquer the Channel Islands. From there, they intended to use Hartung's weapon to force an Allied surrender. Although accounts differ, either Chris Cwej and Roz Forrester (PROSE: Just War) or Bernice Summerfield and Jason Kane (AUDIO: Just War) managed to destroy the bomber.

Working toward their own agenda, "Ironside" Daleks destroyed several Nazi Stuka planes over the skies of London during this time. (TV: Victory of the Daleks)

During the war, the Amulet of the Wastelands came into the possession of Sir Davenport Finch, a fascist collaborator and occultist under house arrest in Sussex. He intended to pass it to Ernst Littmann, a Nazi wizard who could use it to help the Third Reich to win the Second World War, although Littmann was a fabrication of Germany's Littmann Gambit. In 1945, Hitler committed suicide, and the Nazis surrendered shortly thereafter. (PROSE: The Shadow in the Glass)

Alternate timelines[[edit] | [edit source]]

In 1944, the Seventh Doctor and Ace arrived at Colditz Castle, a Nazi POW camp, and accidentally left behind a laser, which allowed the Nazis to turn defeat into victory and conquer most of the world. (AUDIO: Colditz) In this alternate timeline, the Nazis captured the TARDIS. Elizabeth Klein, an ardent Nazi, brought the TARDIS back to 1944 and inadvertently allowed the Eighth Doctor to restore history, stranding her in the prime reality. (AUDIO: Klein's Story) Klein subsequently became a companion to the Seventh Doctor, but plotted to restore her original timeline. The final outcome of a series of manipulations led to Elizabeth Klein the Nazi being replaced by Elizabeth Klein the UNIT hero. In 1983, neo-Nazis firebombed the home of Ace's friend Manisha Purkayastha because she was from Pakistan. Thinking about this, Ace later lamented how Nazi ideologies had managed to survive beyond the Second World War. (PROSE: Illegal Alien, TV: Ghost Light)

In 1988, a neo-Nazi group led by Hans de Flores attempted to take control of the Nemesis statue and use it to establish a Fourth Reich, but they were foiled by the Seventh Doctor and Ace. De Flores' and his group themselves were wiped out by the Isomorph Cybermen. (TV: Silver Nemesis)
