The following list of cliffhangers gives a brief summary of each televised cliffhanger.

Season One - 1963-64

• "An Unearthly Child" - The Doctor kidnaps Ian and Barbara and the TARDIS is sent to 100,000 BC. A shadow creeps across the TARDIS.
• "The Cave of Skulls" - The Doctor and his companions are chased into the Forest of Fear by Za and Hur.
• "The Forest of Fear" - Kal and his tribal warriors stop the Doctor and his companions reaching the TARDIS.
• "The Firemaker" - The TARDIS detects readings of dangerous radiation.
• "The Dead Planet" - Barbara is cornered by a Dalek.
• "The Survivors" - Susan collects the anti-radiation drugs in the TARDIS and prepares to go back to the city.
• "The Escape" - The Doctor, Susan, Barbara and Ian (disguised as a Dalek) try to escape the Dalek City.

• "The Brink of Disaster" - The TARDIS materialises on a cold, snowy area with a giant footprint on the ground.
• "The Roof of the World" - Lord Tegana buys a poison to use on the caravan's water supply.
• "The Singing Sands" - Tegana is sent to find desperately needed water and finds an oasis but doesn't send any water back.
• "Five Hundred Eyes" - The Doctor, Susan and Ping-Cho go to a cave where they find that a painting of eyes is moving.
• "The Wall of Lies" - Ian tries to escape the caravan and finds a dead guard.
• "Rider from Shang-Tu" - Tegana holds Susan hostage.
• "Mighty Kublai Khan" - Tegana threatens Ping-Cho.
• "The Sea of Death" - Barbara's travel dial is discovered, covered in blood.
• "The Velvet Web" - Susan is frightened by the Screaming Jungle.
• "The Screaming Jungle" - Ian and Barbara land on a snowy mountain.
• "The Snows of Terror" - Ian is knocked out while investigating a body.
• "Sentence of Death" - Susan is kidnapped and the Doctor is threatened to stop investigating the murders.
• "The Temple of Evil" - Tlotoxl declares Barbara, posing as the Aztec god, Yetaxa, a false god and he states that he will destroy her.
• "The Warriors of Death" - Barbara demands Ixta to halt from killing Ian. Tlotoxl argues that if she truly is Yetaxa, then she should save Ian herself.
• "The Bride of Sacrifice" - Ixta seals Ian inside a tunnel leading to the TARDIS, where water starts flooding in.
• "The Day of Darkness" - The TARDIS' instruments claim the ship has stopped and is still moving.
• "Strangers in Space" - The Sensorites enter the ship.
• "The Unwilling Warriors" - Susan leaves with the Sensorites, saying that she has agreed to live with them on the Sense Sphere so they will not kill the humans.
• "Hidden Danger" - Ian collapses from an incurable disease.
• "A Race Against Death" - It appears the monster in the aqueduct has found the Doctor.
• "Kidnap" - Carol is captured.
• "A Desperate Venture" - The Doctor is angered by Ian's comment and says he will take him home.
• "A Land of Fear" - Susan, Ian, and Barbara are captured; the Doctor is trapped in a burning house.
• "Guests of Madame Guillotine" - Susan and Barbara are led to execution.
• "A Change of Identity" - The Doctor's false identity has been discovered.
• "The Tyrant of France" - Ian is captured.

Season Six - 1968-69

• The Dominators Episode 1 - The Doctor and Jamie have discovered the Dominators' spaceship. Jamie points out that they are being observed by two Quarks from a nearby hilltop. Toba joins the Quarks and they ask him if they should destroy.
• The Dominators Episode 2 - Zoe and Cully are trapped in the Dulcian survey unit as it is fired upon by the Quarks. Explosions rock the building and rubble crashes down around them.
• The Dominators Episode 3 - Toba orders the Quarks to destroy totally the Dulcian museum in which Jamie and Cully are taking cover. The Quarks fire and the building collapses around the two friends. A smiling Toba is informed by a Quark that the task has been completed.
• The Dominators Episode 4 - Toba tells his prisoners that they will die one by one unless they reveal where Jamie is. They refuse to answer, and the Dulcian Educator Balan is the first to be gunned down by a Quark. The Doctor is next in line, and the Quarks get ready to fire again.
• The Dominators Episode 5 - The Doctor tells Jamie that Dulkis is safe; there will be just a minor eruption confined to one island. Jamie points out that they themselves are on the island and the Doctor reacts in horror as lava flows towards them.
• The Mind Robber Episode 1 - The TARDIS breaks apart and the Doctor's companions are left floating in nothingness.
• The Mind Robber Episode 2 - A unicorn charges at the Doctor and his companions.
• The Mind Robber Episode 3 - Zoe tries not to look at Medusa.

• The Space Pirates Episode 5 - The Doctor is searching for Jamie and Zoe beneath the LIZ 79 when Caven decides to launch the ship by remote control. The Doctor is caught in the blast as the ship lifts off into space.
• The War Games Episode 1 - A World War I firing squad prepare to shoot the Doctor.
• The War Games Episode 2 - The Doctor and his friends are attacked by a group of Roman soldiers.
• The War Games Episode 3 - The Doctor and Zoe are trapped inside a SIDRAT.

Series 6 - 2011

• The Impossible Astronaut - Amy shoots a girl inside an astronaut suit.
• Day of the Moon - The mysterious little girl regenerates in New York City.
• The Rebel Flesh - A ganger of the Doctor emerges from shadow.
• The Almost People - The ganger of Amy Pond is destroyed, and the real Amy wakes, ready to give birth. She is told by a mysterious lady to "push".
• A Good Man Goes to War - River Song reveals that she is Amy and Rory's daughter.
• Closing Time - River is placed inside the astronaut suit in Lake Silencio, ready to kill the Doctor on 22 April 2011.
• The Wedding of River Song - Dorium asks the Doctor the first question in the Universe: "Doctor who?"

Series 7 - 2012-2013

• The Snowmen - Upon Clara Oswald's death, Doctor discovers that she and Oswin Oswald are one and the same, and sets out to find a third version of her.

• The Name of the Doctor - As the Doctor carries Clara away, the man turns around, showing his elderly face as an on-screen caption reveals his identity to be "The Doctor."

Torchwood

Series 1- 2006-2007

• End of Days - Jack hears the TARDIS materialising and leaves the Hub.

Series 2 - 2008

• Fragments - After facing a bomb trap in a warehouse the Torchwood team are contacted by Captain John Hart, who reveals he planted the bombs and shows Jack his brother Gray.

Series 3 - 2009

• Children of Earth: Day One - Due to an accidental scan, Jack finds out a bomb has been planted in his stomach.
• Children of Earth: Day Two - "We are coming tomorrow."
• Children of Earth: Day Three - The 456 demand 10% of the world's children and Jack reveals to his team that he gave the 12 children to the 456 in 1965 as a "gift".
• Children of Earth: Day Four - When Jack and Ianto confront the 456, refusing their proposal and promising they'll fight, the 456 release a virus into Thames House killing everyone inside apart from Dekker.
• Children of Earth: Day Five - Six months after the events of the series, Captain Jack leaves the Earth for a new life.

Series 4 - 2011

• The New World - Rex Matheson and Cardiff's police force surround Gwen, Jack, Rhys and Anwen and extradite Gwen and Jack to the United States.
• Rendition - Jack, Gwen, Esther Drummond and Rex escape the Central Intelligence Agency.
• Escape to LA - Geraint Cooper is taken away to Cowbridge Overflow Camp.
• The Categories of Life - Vera Juarez is burnt inside a module activated by Colin Maloney.
• The Middle Men - Gwen learns her mother, husband, and child are being held hostage, and a mysterious group talking through her Eye-5 demands Jack.
• Immortal Sins - Jack learns that his former lover Angelo knows about the Miracle.
• End of the Road - Esther is on the run with a mortally wounded Jack.
• The Gathering - In Shanghai, Jack, Gwen and Oswald Danes notice Jack's blood pointing them towards the Blessing.

• Revenge of the Slitheen Part One - Florm Rox Fey Fenerill-Slam Slitheen chases Sarah Jane, Glune Fex Fize Sharlaveer-Slam Slitheen confronts Luke and Korst Gogg Thek Lutiven-Day Slitheen reveals himself to Clyde and Maria.
• Eye of the Gorgon Part One - The nuns kidnap Luke and Clyde and the Gorgon turns Alan to stone.
• Warriors of Kudlak Part One - Sarah Jane and Maria are confronted by Kudlak and Luke and Clyde are teleported to the Uvodni warship.
• Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane? Part One - Krislok erases Maria from history but she escapes to 1964 and meets Sarah Jane as a child.
• The Lost Boy Part One - Mr Smith reveals his true intentions and absorbs Clyde into his data banks, Luke's "Parents" reveal themselves as Slitheen and Korst Gogg Thek Slitheen vows revenge.

Series 2 - 2008

• The Last Sontaran Part One - Commander Kaagh stuns Sarah Jane and plans to send satellites to Earth's nuclear stockpiles causing a nuclear holocaust.
• The Day of the Clown Part One - The Pied Piper traps Sarah Jane and her friends in Spellman's Magical Museum of the Circus.
• Secrets of the Stars Part One - Martin Trueman starts taking over everyone in the world by their star signs one by one; Clyde attacks Sarah Jane, Luke and Rani.
• The Mark of the Berserker Part One - Paul Langer tells Clyde to forget his friends and becomes possessed by a Berserker.
• The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith Part One - Sarah Jane saves her parents from death but returns to the present to find that London is in ruins and the Trickster reveals that he tricked her.
• Enemy of the Bane Part One - Sarah Jane, Rani and the Brigadier escape the Black Archive with the Tunguska Scroll, agents of the Bane Kindred attack Luke and Clyde and Mrs Wormwood joins Kaagh.

Series 3 - 2009

• Prisoner of the Judoon Part One - Mr Smith warns Luke, Clyde, Rani and Tybo to leave the Bannerman Road as has been turned in to a bomb which will destroy Bannerman Road in 1 minute.
• The Mad Woman in the Attic Part One - Eve shows Rani her future as a mad woman in an attic.
• The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith Part One - During Sarah Jane's wedding to Peter Dalton, the Doctor suddenly storms in and warns her to stop the wedding but despite his efforts, the Trickster appears and takes Sarah Jane away.
• The Eternity Trap Part One - Sarah Jane is attacked by a red-eyed creature and Clyde and Rani are confronted by Erasmus Darkening.
• Mona Lisa's Revenge Part One - Mona Lisa imprisons Sarah Jane in a painting.
• The Gift Part One - The Rakweed gift from the Slitheen-Blathereen starts infecting Ealing and a plant releases a cloud of spores which advance on Sarah Jane and Luke.

Series 4 - 2010

• The Nightmare Man Part One - The Nightmare Man materialises in the real world after trapping Luke in a permanent nightmare.
• The Vault of Secrets Part One - Androvax (in Clyde's body) takes the two discs from Ocean Waters. Then the Alliance of Shades arrive and tell every one in the room they will be incinerated.
• Death of the Doctor Part One - After the Eleventh Doctor swaps with Clyde, the Claw Shansheeth attack him with an energy beam.
• The Empty Planet Part One - The Automatons corner Clyde and Rani and reveal their guns.
• Lost in Time Part One - The Shopkeeper realises the gang are taking too long and they might be trapped in the past forever.
• Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith Part One - Ruby White begins to feed on Sarah Jane.

Series 5 - 2011

• Sky Part One - Sky is "primed", turning into a pre-teen.
• The Curse of Clyde Langer Part One - Homeless and with no friends, Clyde breaks down until he is approached by a homeless girl offering help.
• The Man Who Never Was Part One - Plark and other Skullions close in on Luke and Sky.
