Story notes

  • This episode was incorrectly entitled Cyber War and Enemies of a Time Lord.
  • Many old enemies have been confirmed to appear in the episode, whether there to play an enemy part is still to be confirmed. The list of enemies include the Daleks, the Cybus Cybermen, the Sontarans, the Judoon, the Slitheen, the Hoix, the Weevils, the Uvodni, the Sycorax, the Silurians, the Autons, the Roboform and the Blowfish. [10]
  • Amy Pond's mother will appear, played by actress Karen Westwood[11]. Her Aunt Sharon will also appear, played by Susan Vildler.
  • The title is most likely a reference to the unidentified explosion on 26/06/2010. (DW: Flesh and Stone)
  • The TARDIS will be destroyed as revealed in the official synopsis.
  • Both the date of the in-universe 'unidentified explosion' and the real-world date of broadcast is also 26/06/2010. This is most likely intentional.
  • A new Dalek will be seen, a Stone Dalek.

Rumours

  • Because in the story the TARDIS will be set to explode, the Doctor might send the TARDIS back into time before the Universe started and the explosion could be set as the Big Bang, thus the Doctor starting the creation of the Universe. The TARDIS exploded at the end of The Pandorica Opens. Also, the creation of the universe and the big bang have already been explained in previous Doctor Who stories.
  • Original Cybermen will return. They didn't appear in DW:The Pandorica Opens'.
  • The Slitheen will return. They didn't appear in DW:The Pandorica Opens', but were mentioned.
  • Omega will return.
  • It is rumoured that either the Timoreen, the Ha'rik, or the Skarkish will appear – primarily because these were all listed as "new aliens" to appear in Series 5 and have not appeared yet.
  • The Big Bang caused by the explosion of the Heart of the TARDIS.
  • In DW: Flesh and Stone, when Amy had her eyes shut, the Doctor reappeared wearing his other coat (worn in the first two and again since episode 6) and told Amy to "remember." Many fans have speculated that the Doctor here is a Doctor from the future coming back to give a warning to Amy. The Doctor there could possibly be coming from this story.
  • The popular fan-rumoured main antagonist for the finale is Omega.
  • It is rumoured, due to the fact of it not appearing yet, that the Blue Peter TARDIS design will appear in this episode. It was rumoured that it would appear in The Lodger, however a different design appeared. It makes sense for it to appear in this episode, because the TARDIS gets destroyed at the end of The Pandorica Opens. It is also just as likely they will use the vortex manipulator that River Song still possesses to use as their time travel device.
  • It could be that the TARDIS itself is the main antagonist of the episode, like Mr. Smith in SJA: The Lost Boy. This could be because the voice is heard from the TARDIS and there being no apparent cause of it exploding apart form an external force, this could be the TARDIS acting under its own free will.
