== Standard Preloads ==
Hey there,
I'm an admin over on the IndieGameBundle wiki.  I would love to add the "Stardard Preloads" functionality that your wiki has, but customized for our wiki.  I was wondering if you could point me to an article on how to do this or give me a brief description on how you did it?  Specifically:  How did you edit the preview publish panel to add the dropdown for preloads, how do you populate that list, and when someone selects the preload, how did you load that info into the edit window.  An additional question is how you edited the create new page dialog to not have the standard layout / blank page choices.
Thanks so much!

Hey all :) If you need help with anything, please ask, below. The page tends to fill up quickly, so I've got a lot of archives. I try not to archive discussions that are ongoing, but sometimes it unfortunately happens. Gimme a second shout if I've not answered your question!

This page is also available in Bulgarian, German, Spanish, French, Dutch, Hebrew and Russian.

If you've come here to request a simple, uncontroversial page move, please consider using {{speedy rename}} instead. This puts all rename requests into a neat little chart that all admin can see and work on.

Page Creation

Hi. When I created the pages about stage play cast and crew, I was creating them from red links on the page Doctor Who and the Daleks in The Seven Keys to Doomsday so, I assumed that it wasn't nessessary for me to provide a source since they were already credited on the page. As for the category-less pages, I quickly added categories for most of them when I realised that they should be there, after I had made the pages.

I also wanted to mention that I have cut-down on my pipe-switching for story pages since I have now accepted, as you told me earlier, that it is a waste of my editing time and is against Tardis policy. But is Pipe-switching for articles of real people acceptable? Lego Whovian 20:37, September 13, 2013 (UTC)

Look on Chat now for my example of pipe-switching people page names. Lego Whovian 14:45, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Messages

OK, testing here first. That would certainly be an odd bug, but yet again, this is the first time I've seen the Spotlights not working completely on DWA (they've been blank before, but not totally missing). Just wondering, did you get my message from a few days ago regarding Spotlighting for the 50th? I left it on your talk page here, but it got archived soon after and you made no response. Imamadmad (Contact me) 21:17, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

Uh...

You can delete Doctor Who Prom (2013) again. Not sure how that was overlooked. I moved my relevant edits from my edit history onto Doctor Who at the Proms (2013) ages ago, and the televised version is in fact called at the Proms. -- Tybort (talk page) 20:26, September 18, 2013 (UTC)

British Spelling

Hello there! I'm aware that you can use a template to request a rename for a page, but in this case it is a category. I'm not entirely certain a "category" is considered a "page", so I am asking you.

If I recall correctly, I am pretty sure that the British spelling of "license" is "licence." I think both of the titles of these categories need renaming: "Category:Doctor Who licensed food" and "Category:Publications related to Doctor Who licensed food."

Thanks! -  Speedysnitch   Talk  contribs  23:34, September 24, 2013 (UTC)

You used that same image as an example of what not to do on T:GTI itself. We just lost our illustration. I'd consider restoring it, but of course not letting it on any pages.

Did you get my messages?

Hey CzechOut, jut following the instructions on your DWA talk page and pestering you here after no response there. Just letting you know I left a reply to all your messages on your talk page there. Could it be that bug again stopping you from seeing them?

Also, another message which seems to have slipped under the radar twice now. Do you want to do any sort of collaboration between TDC and DWA in regards to the 50th? Even if the answer is no, can you please just let me know so I can sort out things over there? And if the answer is yes, do you have any ideas of things we could do? If you still haven't gotten back to me on this point by next weekend (not this one coming but the one after that), I'll message one of the other TDC admins about it. However, I would prefer to talk through you about it since you know both wikis the best. Imamadmad (Contact me) 16:25, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply. I did a bit of a quick job of it (just in case I did it all wrong and I have to redo :P), so if I didn't do it properly, I'll gladly go back and fix things.

Bot

It's fine, I know you're busy. No, I have not yet created the account — no good names are coming to me. I'm looking for something preferably linked to my main account's name, but otherwise anything Who-related is fine. user:GadgetGadget's open, but perhaps too long. I thought of maybe user:Canine as a backwards pun on K9... but it's taken. Do you have any ideas?

If there's literally nothing else, I'll have go with the rather bland (but direct) SOTObot.

Also, since you think my base name's a bit too long (and I sorta agree), I can always rename myself to the shortened version, SOTO, right? It's already what I sign with and what people call me, and it won't look so huge in edit histories.
--SOTO 04:03, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

Mediawiki header

Didn't want to interrupt Thread:142564 further, but — while the editing header is admittedly now perfectly readable — there's about two inches of empty space above it. I can barely even see the very top of the box without scrolling down, due to the spoiler warning also taking up space above. I was only getting the problem mentioned by Digifiend on template pages. So it's currently fine in at least namespaces 2, 4, 8, 10, 12... You get the point.

(Therefore the ones that have the empty space are 0, 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11...)

So could you just push it back up a bit? No rush; it's not too much of a hassle.

RE:Nav buttons

Hi CzechOut. The links have been updated. The initial links were just what Kate gave me when I asked for them.

It's odd that you wouldn't be able to edit those MediaWiki: pages. The user right that grants that ability is "editinterface", which all admins have. Maybe that right is only specifically for editing MW pages that appear at Special:AllMessages. Anyhoo, if you ever need one of those MediaWiki:Button pages edited in the future, just message me or any Wikia staff member. JoePlay http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/joeplayground/images/a/a5/WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 17:47, October 9, 2013 (UTC)

Regarding the MW pages, yeah I forgot about them being limited to just staff when they contain <a href="">.
As for the other thing, I was given a brief description of how it would ideally work, so I'm not sure I fully understand it. Based on the little info I was given - a large image that moves to the side when hovered, revealing the round buttons - I don't even know where to begin to make that happen. From the quick look at your wiki contributions, it's apparent that you're more experienced than me at coding (CSS, JS). I'm decent at CSS, but when it comes to JS, I have only the most basic knowledge of how it works, so I couldn't write a script from scratch, unless it was simply to prepend or append some HTML to an existing element. Before working on this redesign, I didn't even know that the transition CSS property existed. (Thanks Google!) :) That said, if the level of coding skill to make that happen (assuming it's possible) is beyond yours and mine, there are a couple people we could ask about it. On my team, Mark is somewhat experienced with JS. If he couldn't do it, we could go to Rappy and/or Grunny. JoePlay http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/joeplayground/images/a/a5/WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 18:44, October 9, 2013 (UTC)
Because I had to abandon the fading buttons method, what's being used at the moment is a simple <imagemap>. Those MediaWiki:Button pages are no longer being used, so no worries about you not being able to edit them. Tomorrow morning I'll upload a new image to be used on the image map that contains buttons that are 25% smaller and top-aligned instead of staggered. Okay, the following production day articles are blank. It looks like it might be majority at this point, but — as I mentioned in chat — I will get to production days early in the coming week. The amount is embarrassing!

Was this definitely on the talk page, or was it a forum post? Because there's User:SmallerOnTheOutside's Thread:142372 on the Panopticon which concerns {{audio story/preload}}. -- Tybort (talk page) 13:20, October 12, 2013 (UTC)

Bernice Summerfield Audio Story Bug

Hi, as I've been editing and creating pages related to the Big Finish Bernice Summerfield range and when searching for stories or linking to stories when referencing, the options with the (audio story) dab isn't automatically there, for example if searching for The Secret of Cassandra just The Secret of Cassandra appears, not The Secret of Cassandra (audio story). This occurred pre and post site redesigned. AdricLovesNyssa 11:09, October 16, 2013 (UTC)

Licensed Videos

Hey CzechOut,

Thanks for your attention to the matter of the licensed video content (and Shambala's attention as well!). Obviously there is no problem with you all governing your own community to make sure that it meets your standards. I'm glad that you are so receptive to our help, and that you are able to distinguish us and appreciate our efforts. I will make sure to follow infobox guidelines for videos in the future, or pass along related content to the admins and allow you to add it to the articles that you see fit.

It was a pleasure having you in the office the other week! Hope all is well.

Parental Filter

Hey man, you could handle ratings in the way that games handle them - by breaking them out a bit. You could tweak the template to accommodate multiple ratings systems. OR to keep it really simple (since you have ratings by episode), you could also give a range of ratings, so the reader gets a sense of the worst-case scenario for the show. So could be like "Rating: TVPG-TV14". Or something like that. Does that help? --Acardwell415 22:23, October 23, 2013 (UTC)Acardwell415

Yes, it's meant to be a very quick snapshot for parents about what they can expect from the show. If we want to provide more detail, we should link them deeper into the wikia, not provide too much detail on this page. It's more about making parents feel comfortable (or not) with what their child would be exposed to if they choose to let their child watch. We provide this template for sample fields to help guide you in creating the page. We know that it's hard to do this with a show that's as expansive as Dr. Who, but look at as an outline of the basics that can drill down into more detail linking deeper into article pages.

--Acardwell415 23:46, October 23, 2013 (UTC)Acardwell415

This looks amazing! Great job. Only thing I would recommend is to move the Television content up, only because it's the content that this type of user is going to look for first. Also it's the meatiest. I notice that it's listed in alphabetical order, but it may be worth moving it up. Up to you! Otherwise, love it!
--Acardwell415 18:26, October 24, 2013 (UTC)Acardwell415
I'm working on getting this included as a link to this page in the nav bar so parents can find it easily. I'd like to have it added on in the "On the wiki" section, so let me get back to you on this. Stay tuned! And thanks for the great work on this page. You guys are always leading the way on stuff like this.

Tenth Doctor lead-in

I have a question, although I feel that I may be bothersome or nitpicking in bringing it to your attention. It concerns the first sentence that's currently on the page for Tenth Doctor. While I was going through pages yesterday I noticed that the first sentence reads something like "This person was, according to UNIT Australia Captain Kath Braxton, the tenth incarnation of the Time Lord known as the Doctor." (I'm not looking at the page directly right now so I'm paraphrasing.)

My thinking was this: from a literary standpoint (former lit major here, I'm apologizing in advance), it looks like the article is placing the burden of identifying the Doctor on an incredibly minor character from a comic that probably not a lot of people have read. The character doesn't even have a page - the first thing people see when they're going to the page for, arguably, the most popular Doctor is a red link. I didn't feel that it was necessary to the article to include this minor citation, so I removed it.

It was added back on by user:Tybort within a couple minutes, stating that the character of Braxton did, in fact, refer to this Doctor as the Tenth Doctor. I posted on his talk page (I hope I didn't come across as rude) stating exactly what I just said - I don't understand why, in the first sentence of the article, we're hinging his identification on a guy that nobody's heard of and doesn't even have a page. I haven't yet received a response; I was just curious what your opinion was on the matter. TARDIStraveler 15:59, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

btw thanks for thinking about me for the wiki invite but it was short notice and a bit far - besides not really sure how much input I would have been able to make unless it was as a guinea pig for wiki thickos lol The Librarian 12:26, October 27, 2013 (UTC)

Ah, OK then. just got a little bit confused when you announced that your big awards celebratory thing was being pushed back. Anyway, can't wait to see how the trivia thing goes! Although, there isn't much time left in the year for your last announcement, unless you're going to make it coincide with the big Christmas episode.

Anyway, sorry for breaking T:FORUM. I didn't mean to try to derail the conversation, especially since the thread was still titled to suggest that these were a big 50th anniversary celebration.

Also, while I'm here (and I don't think there's anything against going off topic in a user talk conversation), I was wondering how you put the Twitter widget in the siderail of pages here, and was wondering if that was also possible to do the same with a Facebook widget. Just thinking of maybe doing it over at DWA for its Twitter and Facebook pages and thought you're probably the best person to ask about it.

Thanks! Imamadmad (Contact me) 07:09, November 2, 2013 (UTC)

British Language

So I like just joined the wiki (at this time like 10/15 minutes ago) and I'm still just getting used to the wiki template, not like your normal wiki.

When I was about to write an opening for my Talk Page, it said here we'd be using British English, I'm just inquisitive to what this means and why we can't use our local tongue's here. Thank you --CornettoFan450 19:55, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

Poll Posts

On other wikias, polls are common. If we're allowed to do so, what should we be posting them under. I know the code for making a poll, it will be on theme songs and what the majority thought the best was, I just need to know where to post them under, thanks --CornettoFan450 21:12, November 3, 2013 (UTC)

Editing Windows

Sorry, me again, just curious, do we edit character or episode pages while the episode is running? Like, American Dad wiki has a lock where you can only edit that episode during, that's another wikia, but how does it work here, or do we have to wait until the next day or until the episode is concluded --CornettoFan450 01:37, November 4, 2013 (UTC)

Spotlight Request

Hi. I can't answer all your questions as I do not know what the community development team has planned for Doctor Who later this month. The Doctor Who Answers spotlight is approved to be up for the full month so it will cover the appropriate time period. As far as I know there is no difficulty with having both wikis spotlighted at the same time; in fact it seems to me that it would work well to have both types of wiki highlighted.

I've gone ahead and approved Tardis Wiki for a spotlight. Spotlights go up at the beginning and middle of the month, so if it is included in the next batch it would be up for the week before and after the 23rd as you wanted; however I cannot guarantee the timing... there is a chance it may slip to the December 1st slot. -- Wendy (talk)<staff /> 04:29, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

I'm so sorry - I forgot to tell Imamadmad that they had agreed to leave it up for a month. I left her a message. -- Wendy (talk)<staff /> 00:25, November 7, 2013 (UTC)

Hello! I don't if you're the right person to go to but I don't know where else I could put this message. I noticed that when you go to an article and there's a link for the portuguese version of it, there's this little image of a flag. I wonder if it could perhaps be changed to the Brazilian flag, since the portuguese version of the DW Wikia is being contructed by brazilians (and therefore we're using brazilian portuguese instead of european portuguese)? If there are others I should have contacted instead of you could you please direct me to them? Thank you very much! The preceding unsigned comment was added by Manyu13 (talk • contribs) .

Quick, Random, But Also Important Question

Hello! Sorry to bother you and be a bit of a pain by asking a rather strange question BUT I'd really like an answer so I'm going to ask anyway. RIGHT SO... In 'Rose', Rose and Mickey go to a restaurant and Rose talks about getting a new job and a guy called Jimmy Stone. Now, I've always thought that was his name and this wiki supports that, BUT if you listen to Rose in the episode, she says "It's all Jimmy Stones's fault" (emphasis on the s's). So my question is:

Is his name actually Jimmy Stone and this was just an error on Billie Piper's part, or is his name Jimmy Stones?

Much appreciated if you could get back to me as soon as possible:-) Thanks. CC.

RE: Quick, Random, But Also Important Question

Just checked to see if you'd replied and was pleased to find that you'd actually EDITED the page! Thank you so much! In the words of the Ninth Doctor - "fanTAStic!"

Doctor Paradox

Let's get right to the point; in the episode Father's Day (TV story), Rose and The Doctor travel back in time to be at her father's side when he is about to die, when she inadvertently saves his life, she creates... well since I don't remember their title, for the sake of the question, we'll call them Paradox Dragons.

Now, since these rules apply to everyone else, why doesn't it apply to the Doctor, I mean, yes he is a time lord and he is able to manipulate every scientific law placed fourth, but why doesn't he encounter the Paradox Dragons. The up-and-coming prime example stands to be The Day of the Doctor, The Doctor will encounter two previous (or possible future for John Hurt's case) incarnation. Just curious to this fact, thanks --CornettoFan450 21:28, November 11, 2013 (UTC)

Quick question Re: Night of the Doctor

Hi CzechOut. Just wondering about The Night of the Doctor: The site has the Doctor Who Television Stories template at the bottom of each television story, and all it lists for the Eighth Doctor is the TV movie. As the only other appearance of the Eighth Doctor, will The Night of the Doctor be added to the template at any point? Or is it not technically a 'television' story? Hi Czech, I was just wondering if you think that The Curator should be added to the Doctors template, or if he should be added in some way to the Fourth Doctor page? What do you think is best? Ghastly9090 00:22, November 24, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Czech, is it possible for you to speak to me in chat quickly about the issue with my username? Thanks. Ghastly9090 20:17, November 24, 2013 (UTC)

CzechBot on Dr Who Answers

Hey CzechOut, I was wondering if you meant for CzechBot to add categories such as "Will" and "The" to questions on the Dr Who Answers Wikia? Could you get back to me about this so I know whether or not to run mine though and remove those categories?

Cheers! Corey Chambers (talk) 00:29, November 30, 2013 (UTC)

Alrighty I just thought it may have been a slip up since only a few pages have been added to each of those. Yeah, I've asked to run the bot on there, Imamadmad was actually pretty excited considering CzechBot hasn't been active in so long, and s/he went ahead and sent in a bot flag request for it, which was accepted and the bot was flagged just the other day. You can check mine and Imamadmad's conversation about it with those links. As for what the bot is to do on there is it's just a small maintenance bot, goes through the newer questions and links to already answered ones, corrects grammatical and capitalization errors, and marks spam pages for deletion. Also no need to explain why you were curious I understand :)
Cheers!

Corey's Bot

Just a reply to your reply to User:Corey Chambers since you seemed confused: He's already contacted me and discussed using his bot. Since you're usually too busy here to do regular bot runs for things like spelling over at DWA, I agreed to ask Wikia to get S.H.I.E.L.D. Bot a bot flag, after making Corey agree that he would ask before doing anything big and will willingly stop and explain and change what he is doing if asked. He just has a bot flag and no admin rights, so he can do spell corrections, category maintenance etc. but can't delete pages or do anything else big, or at least not until he has proven himself. Is this OK with you? I couldn't see why you would have a problem with it anyway, but if you do, I'm sure you'll speak up! Imamadmad (Contact me) 01:35, November 30, 2013 (UTC)

Quick request and question. On the slideshow of the Doctors and his respected page, should we add The War Doctor to it? and if so, could someone due to the fact I cannot because of internal speed issues. Thank you.

Accusations at Dr Who Answers Wiki

I am deeply surprised and upset at finding myself demoted over at Dr Who Answers. I have left a longer post on your talk page there, but I must say that I find it to be incorrect, not least because the discussion was closed before I had a chance to respond to the IP's false accusations. The IP 89 made various wild claims against me, but failed to provide a single shred of evidence to back any of it up. It is nothing more than a hate-filled rant by someone who was blocked after having been warned not to make personal attacks against other editors.

I was also surprised by Imamadmad's claims. First a year ago, the Dr Who Answers website was in an appalling state. It consisted of a handful of vicious IP editors, making personal attacks against the few good users, as well as making posts using words like "f**k", "c**t", "n**ger" etc. My so-called secret application was to get the only active people with accounts there at the time(Imamadmad and myself) Admin status to remove all these four-letter words and racist attacks, and ultimately help to bring Dr Who Answers to where it should be. Yes, at the time a year ago I did block people who were deemed to have made multiple disruptive and/or offensive edits. Over the past year however I have been overjoyed to see Dr Who Answers grow from those dark days to become a vibrant website with multiple users. Unfortunately, there will always be people who think it's acceptable to make attacks on others, whether personal(like 89) or broader attacks, such as against peoples' race(a others sadly still do). After warnings these people are blocked. Imamadmad's other complaint was that I have not spent any time making the Dr Who Answers website prettier. This is absolutely true. While Imamadmad has made thousands of edits changing the background, font etc. I have been editing articles, removing the hundreds of swear words and racial slurs, adding categories, deleting duplicates, giving full factual correct answers, tidying up answers, and yes blocking disruptive vandals who seem to think that it's still one year ago. Maybe I did jump the gun with some stuff a year ago. However, I absolutely believe I have done nothing wrong on Dr Who Answers in the past few several at least. I find it very upsetting that because of one disruptive IP(who threatened not to edit on Dr Who Answers anymore if he/she wasn't allowed to continue to make his/her personal attacks) that I should be demoted. I was also shocked by some of Imamadmad's claims. If he/she felt that way about me for so long, then why not say so? All he/she occasionally did was say "Come on Spiders". By the same token I disagreed with many of the blocks he/she gave to editors, as well as certain of his/her site policies(such as the oft-repeated "What is [name] in Gallifreyan?", yet did not post some of the vicious stuff he/she has recently stated. Just so you know I have left messages on Community Central asking for people there to look into the situation.

To summarise, I feel that your action was totally incorrect. I do not believe that Imamadmad's complaints about my lack of helping with the aesthetics of Dr Who Answers, coupled with the false claims of a disgruntled IP who I had blocked for personal attacks in any way constitutes a "consensus". I am hoping that this matter can be resolved quickly in a friendly manner. Master of Spiders 12:23, December 3, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Query about an edit

Both we and Wikia Staff are looking hard at an edit you made to figure out what the heck happened. Here's the edit you made with the new VisualEditor. What we're interested in is the bit around Line 97. We can't figure out how all those categories and interwiki links got all scrunched together like that. It's nothing we can replicate. Did you intentionally edit that way? If not, what do you remember about the edit you made? If you could be as precise as possible, it'd be very helpful. Thanks :)

I remember exactly what happened, because I noticed someone fixed it, and wondered myself. I used the VisualEditor, and then clicked the "More" option (as opposed to going through Classic Editor) to go enter "[] Source Mode", which opened a little window. From there, I manually added the "[[Category:Actors who appeared in 1963 and 2005 versions of Doctor Who]]", old-school style, and then saved. The Source Editor has all the Categories only one line away from each other, and as with most editing on Wikia, when I saved, it seems to have combined all the Categories together into one line. It wasn't intentional, and I didn't noticed until after it was corrected, but that's what I've been able to figure out. Sorry about the trouble. I'll try to stick to Classic Editor.--Tim Thomason 18:20, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

Standard Preloads
