South American State, also known as New South America (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac) was a country that existed in South America on Earth in the parallel universe called "Pete's World".
According to one account, South America was originally made up of independent nations, which by the 21st century had unified into a single state called New South America. (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac)
In 2004, the South American State reported that 265,000 people had gone missing. Pete Tyler, using an alias known as Gemini, linked these disappearances to Cybus Industries and sent this information to the Preachers on an encrypted broadcast. (WC: Tardisode 5)
While escaping from the Cybermen, Mrs. Moore revealed that Gemini had been sending the Preachers information on John Lumic's South American operations. Pete Tyler admitted that he was Gemini, and mistakenly thought he was broadcasting to the security services. (TV: The Age of Steel)
